  • I agree, it was all very well done apart from right at the start (6am group):

The groups that came after us were directed onto the slip road, rather than the wrong way into the Blackwall tunnel.

  • Grides were you a late starter? I saw someone fixing a puncture in the tunnel...

organisation was amazing. water stops the best. mechanics and/or first aid at most of the stops. plenty of portaloos. Hub 1 was a bit annoying that it took you on a long walking detour and there were queues, but hardly an organisational problem. I just think it got congested and everyone slowed down on the way in. didn't check out the other hubs. there were so many volunteers, people asking if you were ok, doing hazard warnings, organising pedestrian crossings (where they closed each side of the road in turn), chivvying people off the road when they stopped/waited. even a couple of support vans in the more rural stretches driving around slowing down to ask people if they were ok. did you see the girl who was flagging a dangerous dip in the road? she must've been there for hours! (it wasn't a pothole as such, smooth tarmac so it wasn't very visible). I was at the back of the field and nothing ran out, no-one got grumpy.

  • Ha! Actual time 5.03- forgot the first two miles weren't timed. And if anyone wants a look at me being serious- and looking chunkier than I expected- 16767.

  • I almost look like I know what I'm doing!

  • In most of my later photographs I look like I've fallen asleep.

    With a wonky hat on.

  • Dammit you're being unnecessarily vain... no-one would ever notice your hat was wonky. you do seem to have attracted a lot of photographer attention though, do you look like a celebrity?

  • I was called "Clunesey" at University, maybe they thought that one half of Men Behaving Badly was wearing a wonky helmet, at speed, through London.

  • I now have an RPM-induced wonky wrist complex

  • At least tell me he started with flowers and a movie

  • it just started with pinched shoulders...

  • The straight arm shrugged shoulder thing is a symptom of having to support your upper body weight with your arms; your spine might be at 45 degrees but if you took your hands off the bars you'd collapse forward.

If your core is solid you should be able to take your hands off the bars whilst riding with your hips taking the weight and your core supporting upper body on its own so your hands are just guiding the bars not really using them as a support.

  • Highlight of my ride was seeing a guy riding up box hill on a bmx and doing a very good pace! Also looking at strava I almost hit 50mph going down hill which was epic but somehow didn't seem that fast either! :/

Lows was getting cramps 6 or 7 times during the last 30 miles and stopping to stretch it out, also riding the first 70 miles by myself was very depressing and lonely, and eventually I had to slip stream a few trains and I do apologise for not putting any work at the front as I was worried about cramping up again!

But overall a great day out and will definitely be up for it again! Bring on 2014!!! =)

  • ffs - my local strava segments now have a new top 300.

  • Fun times.

  • Sounds like next years ballot is going to fill up in 15 mins. So what are the chances of doing it rogue ?

  • This is clearly wrong as he started in the first group I think, definitely around 6.00am and he finished at least 30mins after me and I finished at 1.56pm!

Well done Boris for putting this on in the face of widespread criticism & also for having "a go", in whatever form this took.

He definitively went out in the first few waves. Sounds like he had a huge sprint finish, as I passed him on the run into Sutton Abinger (well before Leith Hill and he was going very slowly & looked in a world of pain) - I finished at 1:15pm

  • I now have an RPM-induced wonky wrist complex

Second that - off to the gym to get my core in shape.....

  • omg, there are videos up there now. Definitely time for me to find some dumbbells.

  • Now that i've had a days separation from the Ride 100, just wanted to share a couple of thoughts.

As this is the first 100mile cycle i've completed I was glad to get round in a smudge over 6 hours moving time (very keen to actually do some serious training for next year if I can and see whether I can get closer to 5 hours. Am incredibly annoyed that I had to stop halfway up Leith Hill as rather than being caught behind peoples wheels weaving all over the place I thought I'd go pass them as it was safer. Lesson learned for next time!

Enjoyed flying past Boris on the back of Boxhill, but it was inevitable that at some point i'd pass him, fair play to him for having a crack at it and completing the course (as much as I dislike the man!)

Struggled a little when 90miles hit but a the last water stop and an electrolyte tablet seemed to give me a boost and from then on in seemed to be overtaking most people. The End on the Mall was fantastic seemed to have it all to myself and the support with people banging on the hoardings was fantastic.

Have to say the route was incredibly well organised, the volunteers were great. Riding on open roads was fantastic. Water stops and hubs were fantastically well organised, although queuing for toilets was a mistake!

It was good to catch up with Doctor Cake at Newlands Corner and ride the rest of the way pretty much with her and couple of other cyclists from Redhill CC. Hope I wasn't too much of a hindrance!

Roll on the next Ride 100!

  • More photos have been uploaded! =p

  • Nice one of the two of us there at the end Hoke!

  • Shucks! =)

  • 22277 if anyone wants a laugh

Happy with my 4:17:31 and 155th - average heart rate 165bpm and I felt like I'd been run over by a steam roller come Monday morning. Can't believe I rode the whole thing on two bottles and a single 50sec stop for nature, felt very dehydrated at the end. Bring on 2014!
