  • On the famous 'dale? I'll shout if I see you.

  • Yep, will be- Brixton Cycles top also. What'll you be riding?

  • I'll be on my Storck. I see you BC guys often on a Sunday morning as I head down Hogtrough over Pilgrims way on my way south. Always seems like a friendly group.

  • Hi Chris,

I'm off at the same time and in need of some pretty serious training. What are you thinking?

I'd like to cycle the route, just to check it out. Maybe this weekend.

Silly question maybe, but I'm guessing helmets are compulsory? I haven't been keeping up-to-date with the emails.

Brixton are friendly, really nice bunch of people.

I did 35 miles in the end - got out a bit later than anticipated and the light was going:

  • I saw you. We nodded as we passed on Cudham Lane. I was very late out and chasing the last light too. Managed 35ish miles as well, but had heavy legs and it all felt a bit of a slog.

  • Godamn! My Storck recognition skills are sadly lacking.

I will endeavour to do better next time.

Sounds good, I'm happy to do Sunday morning if that suits? Probably skip out all of the London rubbish and just hit the trail from the Richmond area?

Helmets are compulsory due to the organisers insurance.

Just a heads up, but if you plan to scout the exact route be aware that it takes in sections of major A roads including bits of dual carriageway. Fine on closed roads, but not much fun with 18 wheelers flying past at 70mph.

I did shout "Dammmmiiiiiiit!" after you, but my brain took too long to process and combine 1 x lovely Cannondale + BC kit = you. I think you were fast disappearing down that steep bit into Cudham road.

  • Due to a lack of training i'm going to be riding to Woburn Sands near Milton Keynes, a 60 mile cycle on Saturday if anyone fancies joining me, it I struggle with that I will think about deferring till next year.

Also can anyone tell if they are in the Blue or Black Loading Zones?

  • Me and my mate are going to ride to box hill tomorrow from east in the early morning for a little training ride to get use to riding gears again, hopefully the rain won't won't dampen our mood too much! =)

  • HoKe! are you doing this then? look out for me at the mall, I'll be about 5 hours behind you...

going to head out to do Richmond - Guildford via White Down and Leith Hill
this afternoon... recreating next week's midday madness. anyone want to join pm me, leaving in south london in about an hour.

  • Good luck on the really strange loose gravel road surface the council has put down on parts of the route.

  • hmm! whereabouts?
in the end I did this
. at first I enjoyed the light rain, but it got heavier and heavier, and it was getting dark and there was water sheeting across the A25 and I thought fuck it, and headed back to gomshall to shiver until the next train... wiped out in some wet gravel somewhere, bit road rashy on my elbow and hip/bum too :/

  • I'm doing the second (out of 4) leg at Business Relay 100, starting somewhere SW and finishing somewhere near Box Hill. My boss wants us to win, but in the brochure it says "Remember! It's not a race!"

I've checked the route and it's not going up the only road I can recall the name of with gravelly bits but fairly sure you'll go over some of it as it's all over Surrey.

Quite surprised it's missing out Ranmore or Whitedown Lane. Most sportives seem to cram every bit of climbing in they can. Leith Hill is a bit of a tester but other than that, I don't think the route is too taxing. Wish I'd got a place just for the experience of riding the roads when they're closed.

That said, I generally hate sportives for the nobs who treat it like a race and behave like complete cunts. This is going to be full of London Dynamo riding in chaingang formation and being aggressive like they are at Richmond Park every Saturday.

  • I thought Leith Hill was horrible...
The White Down area is very pretty though.

  • That gravel is the last stage before resurfacing. For some strange reason they leave it like that for ages, sometime months, before putting the new surface down.

I think I was on the road you were thinking of yesterday, near Ockham, which has been desperately in need of resurfacing.

  • I should probably have been paying more attention to this- where/when do we get our numbers/chips etc?

Do I need to go and get them, and if so from where?

  • Ah, looks like you have to go get them from Excel

  • Right got my time: have to be there for 6:48, Get ready at the line for 7:12 and setting off for 7:48! =)

  • Dammit you need your passport too.

  • I'm doing this ride as well, hope to see some familiar faces along the way, and not too much noddergeddon.

(Need to read up on when to pick up stuff as well).

  • yay doctor cake!
getting quite excited about this now :)
