  • Condolences to the family.

This is near me and not , from what I can see, at a junction or similar. The driver seems not to have stopped..

  • so sad. I agree, early mornings, especially saturdays, can feel pretty hairy on the outer london main roads.
    RIP.

  • This is awful news, so sad. RIP.

  • horrible news

    RIP

  • Never nice to see that black logo.
    RIP rider.

  • RIP dear person

  • Sad bad news.

  • awful news. i hate seeing the logo on the forum go black :-(

    RIP

  • So sad. Thoughts with friends and family.

  • Very sad news! Sorry to hear of this in my local area.
    RIP Sir!

  • My heart sinks every time the logo goes black, words are hard to console those immediately affected by this, heartfelt sympathies to family friends. RIP

    Exactly! RIP.

  • R.i.p

  • This is horribly sad. I cannot understand how anyone could leave a man to die in the street like that.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

One positive aspect is that it was initially reported that the cyclist was in his 30s and it turns out he was 56. Cycling keeps you young.

I thought that myself, fella was probably strong as a horse. It's always the tiny human details that make these reports so upsetting.

  • Horrible news. I'm familiar with the area and that road. Not nice.

  • Sad news, RIP.

  • Would be very interested to hear more factual details about the incident if anyone hears more

  • There is very little about the accident itself. A bit can be gleaned from the comments under this piece.

    http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/news/10218251.Cyclist_killed_in_hit_and_run_accident/

While it is sickening that people are debating the rights and wrongs of cycling when two of the victim's adult children are participating, their measured comments along with a few others make it appear that the incident occurred in front of witnesses. These witnesses called the ambulance, did what they could for the victim and managed to read the number plate of the car as it drove off.

Thank God there are people like that in London.

  • ^Much appreciated I hadn't realised there had been any more comments (apart from the usual cars vs bicycles debate of course)

  • It seems as if some of the particularly unpleasant comments have been removed
