That said... cruel to be kind and all that. Maybe if we fuck off for a bit she'll get desperate and find her way home. Vet seems sure she's abandoned though (anectdotal based on what happens in this area I think).

Not. The. Plan!
The best laid schemes of mice and men often go awry, especially when unexpected cats appear.

Right I'm joining this thread albeit temporarily. We live in a Maisonette in Leyton with a little garden. Three days ago I noticed a little kitteny thing in the garden and when it simply didn't fek off I went down for a chat. She (for it is a she) dashed through a broken air vent into a crawl space under the house. I invited her out and checked her over. Skinny but not emaciated, clean but very needy and super affectionate. No collar. We gave her some beef to munch on and kept an eye out.
Turns out she's living in that crawl space. I've no clue how long she's been there. Every time I go outside she appears at the mouth of her little cave and I give her some food. She then just sits on my lap or my shoulder and hangs out for a bit til I fight the urge to bring her in and extricate myself.
Have postered the area and took her to the vets today. No microchip. Cat's Protection won't get involved for 2 weeks and the vets have offered to spay her. Since I'd need to take her in to recoup I'm holding off until we get back from Chrimbo. Hope she's ok in our absence! We don't own a cat and never have. Don't think we can really afford to either. So now we just have to try really hard not to fall in love with her - which is impossible as she's an absolute frikkin heartbreaker!

You were toast the moment you noticed a kitten in your territory. That's how we got ours. Good luck and I 4/5/6th agree with Yauch.

^ Heh. This.

I almost adopted this one.
However I was about to move again, so I couldn't. So hard not to... :-(

Collar but no microchip. Still she kept me happy and amused when I was recovering from my mugging.

Ho Lee Kak! Did you find an owner in the end?

Out of interest - how do you go about deciding whether a cat is an indoor cat or a catflap cat? There are some proper nasty big toms around here and if - IF - we take this one on I need to work that stuff out.

Erm... Just had our first ver laser pointer session and her hinghness is getting out of breathe and even her favourite meat stick isn't enough to make her stop...

It's not normal for a cat to live indoor only, they would never do it in the wild. (My opinion this is.) With those Tom cats, just get a strong water gun to sort them out! We have 3 toms and only 4 cats in total. Yes, my princess is being bullied. But she has her way of surviving by choosing not go out at times when those toms are around, and occasionally got caught out and run as fast as she can to shoot through the flap, toms stop outside the flap with a frustrated face and I come along go "BOO!" All sorted! They will be fine, they are cats.

You can get flaps that scan the chip of the cat trying to gain entry, and only allow in those which have been approved by you.
I know! I think what I'll do is give my neighbour downstairs some pouches and ask her to literally chuck tin trays of the stuff out of her kitchen window into my yard every day...? Can't think what else to do. Obviously if it were my cat and more settled I'd have a feed timer and get someone to pop in.
