We must not rely on appearances, Karaba is not guilty. Frost has killed picus viridis

frost? birds get through winter fine mostly, how did that happen? don't believe a cat on its word @Gaston ;-)

(not judging, or saying Karaba must be guilty, 'cos cats are cats, they do what they do, but I wish they'd just eat what they kill)

A starling or a humble sparrow, although less dramatic, would be sadder - I don't think green woodpeckers are endangered.

I found it dead in front of my door but no trace of lethal bite...

neither of those two are endangered either so I guess that's me not getting a pun or you stating a personal preference? ;-)

No neither. I'm not an expert but I thought both (and other) "common" birds were endangered - numbers have dropped dramatically in a short space of time. Whereas woodpecker may be less common but more stable population. Very happy to be wrong on this though, I do love sparrows.
