Post your cat out through the flap shortly before feeding time and then beckon them through to get to the food. Any resistance and you should go outside and post them through. Keep this up for a while and they will learn that this is how they get in an out of the house.

Will try just that. Although she does wait by the door, instead, so waits round the corner and as soon as the door is open, she comes running in...
Erm... another question, sorry I have many as most of you know, I am all new to the world of cats. I have changed her dry food from whiskas to iams, and what I have been seeing is she would only eat the cheap (whiskas) stuff when she had no choice but with iams, she seems to eat it like snacks... I would put some out and she would just come and eat it right away. I give her a pouch as her main meal and usually leave a handful of dry food for her to munch throughout the day in case I don't come home on time etc. She has already put on almost 1/2kg weight and it's only been 5 weeks... have I been doing it all wrong?? Last thing I want is she turns into a fatty but don't want her to feel hungry either...

Iams are a bit animal testy ain't they?
-
• #358
Don't know, they do smell stronger. She loves the most is dry food from a local pet shop on East Street, but it's just a little too expensive in a long run... and it has a lot of ingredients found in Red Bull... The local shop one not iams.

I don't think they test on animals to change the smell but I'm pretty sure they're not a very animal friendly company.
-

sorry, the smell wasn't a direct comment on your response, just the only difference I could see between the 2 brands. Just did a quick search and yes you are right, they do test on animals... that's kind of sucks...

Indeedy, not that I know which out of the other brands are better, I think kittykat are proctor and gamble too so I tend to avoid them too.

Maybe not after all.

Wow, vegan dog food too.
-
• #366
that's just not normal. How can one tell if their dog wants to be a vegan or not?? Animals like cats and dogs are meant to eat loads of meat, no??
-
• #367
A little weird, my cat happily eats all sorts of shit, but we're a veggie house and feed them meat. I guess if you make sure it's got the right nutrients and stuff in it should be alright for them.

Advice on the pets thread from a while back is that Hills Science Plan was probably the best of the dry foods out there. A 4kg cat only needs 50g a day so a £16 2kg last 40 days or so. Our cat is v. small and it lasts even longer.

Do you feed yours with dry food only?? The advice I got from Battersea was to do both... Hence my worry of over feeding mine...

Dry food only here, with a big bowl of water always available- much easier and better for the mogs teeth apparently.

I thought there is one similar in London also? A colleague sent me a link once but I pride very little attention... Must try and find it.
Catflap troubles continues... Patch would not u the flap no matter what... Tried all methods suggested and she just wouldn't stick her head through the flap... Unless I hold it open... Any other suggestion?

She'll do it in time.

We once concertinad one of our cats, by insistently trying to push him through a catflap while he displayed great resistance. Only after much shoving did we realise that the flap was locked. It took him a couple of days to regain his normal length and forgive us.
Let's hope so... although last week she gave me that pissed off look when I refused to let her out when I was at home in the morning... and wouldn't let me touch her when I got home in the evening... she is a proper character. :-D
