How many have you got? And depends on when (if) you need to find a home by, I could possibly rehome one of them. I think Patch needs a friend who speaks the same langage.

• #1354
aw thanks but i have two - brother and sister, zola is friendly but flo is angry to other cats!
-
• #1355
best to keep them as a pair then. shame I can't help, 3 would be 1 to many for me..

my sister is currently "fostering" a friend's cat. it has been so good for her.
the cat is super patient but must be quite a change to go from living with a family with young kids, to my sister who lives alone and works long hours and spends days away from the house. he (the cat) seems happy though. they have gone abroad for minimum 2 years, maybe forever. -

Patch keeps throwing up since yesterday, and she hasn't really eaten since Friday. She is obviously hungry and whenever we give her some fresh food (fresh from a tin...) she eats really quickly and throws the food back up within moments... Vomit isn't of anything horrible, it's still food ish.... No sighting of hairballl or anything... Thinki go g taking her to the vet but worry that the journey might be stressful for her and only to be told be vet to wait and see what happens in a few days time. Any suggestion?
She is still going out, jumping around, biting feet... Bit low in energy probably due to lack of food... But she doesn't look ill either...
-
• #1362
So she would eat and within 5 mins, everything would come right back out. She clearly feels sorry for the mess she has caused and no matter how much we say it doesn't matter and no amount how we tell her we know she is not doing it on purpose helps her feel better... She is hungry, in fact very hungry but she can't keep any food down. This is breaking my heart... Vet will see her bright and early in the morning... Hope it's just an upset tummy nothing serious...
-
• #1363
Has she been wormed recently? hopefully its nothing major. just a phase shes going through
-
• #1364
Yes she has, just before Christmas, god I remember how she wouldn't talk to me for the rest of the evening after I popped a pill into her mouth...
She just had a few bits of dry food and it seems to be alright. Boyfriend reckons it's the wet food, but it hasn't been changed at all...
-
• #1365
try some plain boiled chicken for a while if she can stomach it?
-
• #1366
She doesn't like chicken... We tried many times in the past. Think I am going for the vet option, best case I waste half a day (off!!!), worse case we catch whatever it is early...
She is now sleeping so peacefully... Bless her...

Anyone knows the average cost of a consultation with vet? I am weighting up options on weather to take her to Celia Hammond which would be cheaper but taxi back and forth would cost me £33, my local private vet is 1 train stop away...
Really should get insurance... Any recommendation, anyone? I was looking at it last night and a lot of companies now want not only the excess amount which is anywhere up to about £100 but also 10% of the total vet bill. So if the total is £300, you would have to pay the excess plus + £30. This seems a bit odd...

My sister says:
"She should take it to be checked over. Even if the vet does say to see what happens they will have made sure there is nothing that needs attention sooner rather than later and probably give it something for the vomiting."

Extra, I don't want to tell you to UTFS :) but...there has been plenty of discussion about vets we like, and pet insurance in this thread and the Post Your Pets one. It will be more helpful than a few replies late on a Sunday night.

Just came back from the vet, Patch is getting more timid with people, she turned he blankets around and created a cave for herself in the carrier... It broke my heart...
Anyway, vet said its probably just an upset tummy, gave her an injection to help with vomiting. The big challenge now is she is not allowed to eat today and only a tiny amout tomorrow and possibly the rest of the week... I was eating my lunch just now and clearly she is very hungry... I feel very sad...
-
• #1371
Poor Patch :( Give her a squeeze from me, though obvs not around her middle.
-
• #1372
She wants food and to go out. 2 things that make her happy and she is not having either tonight. I spend my whole day saying sorry to her. She looks sad, she must be thinking why isn't the mug feeding me. I hope she doesn't think she has done anything wrong (vomiting = making a mess etc) and this is a punishment of any kind...

Do you clean up the vom? Cats will often eat it back up. Unless it's a furball I leave it there for an hour or so. Cats scoff terribly, imagine what you'd be like if you scoffed a bag of chips in 30seconds flat.
-
• #1374
Yes I did, pretty much right away. It smells horrible. To be honest I could have left it there, it contains mostly food that hasn't even gone done the stomach properly, so she could recycle. Could post pic if anyone is interested? (Only joking)
I am going to spoon feed her the next couple of days I think, so she has to eat slowly. Or is it taking it too far?
If I scoff a bag of chips in 30seconds... Erm.... Wait a min, isn't it the standard speed of munching chips?

aww poor patch- im sure she will be back to normal in a few days.
6 months? Really? What for? 5 years is young ish I think. If they were like 10+ then it might not be a good idea.
Whatever you do, please try to avoid sending them to a cat home like battersea. Nothing wrong with them but just that you will never know where you cats end up. If you gave them to someone you know and think is good person, at least you could get updates or something, and you know they will be looked after...
