So Cosmic can't play wild card?
It's our only option...You could only play if the uk agreed it somehow. Or steal the irish wild card!

Whilst this listing was hardly the gist of my questioning, the list may well prove useful if, as John says, we want to make up some teams to fulfill/protect our allocations (both this year and future years).
What is now clear is that there will be some effective management by the UKHBPC/UKEQ organisers of the slot allocation, of which it will be decided by the UK that there are to be two types and number - tournament and wildcard.
These UK slots to be allocated by the UK organisers up until the subsequent cut-off date, when any empty slots will be returned to the European pool.

Cabbagegate!

By entering maybe we could assume everyone intends or would like to go. Unless stated otherwise. Could always drop an email round to the teams once reg is done about a reminder how important it is to know if u fill a spot and if your gonna take it or if you just don't intend on going. Then it just concerns the team registered plus less lists people need to look for on the forum.
This. Not keen on the list

It's our only option...Well, you have the following options
Either we don't have enough teams from the champs who want to go, and you are given one of those.
Or you send 2/3 to the champs
Or we agree to give one spot in the wildcard to Cosmic (controversial)
Or you try the first-come-first-served, along with all the other teams in Europe. -

No problem. The list is meaningless.
But when it comes down to 1 hour until the deadline, and whoever was next on the list isn't replying to email, at least we have something to send the EHBPC organisers, rather than losing the spot.

I thought the whole point of a wild card was that it was open to all, regardless of county of origin.
Point is that for what ever reason the team didn't qualify through way of their national automatic allocation process, so they get a second chance.
An open wild card tournament therefore gives every team the opportunity to get into the Euros on a legit basis.
But I'm not running the Euros, so guess we'll have to wait for a poll and hope the result goes in our favour. But then that sounds wrong too.
The polo pick up life is so much less stressful!

If there was to be a UK slot vacant and about to be lost to the European pool deadline, how will the UK organisers attempt to fill it?
Of course I totally understand that some people may be going irrespective of playing in a 'UK official' context, and will take their chances come the day, even then, surely it'd be useful to know who else was intending to go, even if for social reasons?
-

There is no poll. I'm reliably informed that is what is happening (same process as last year, just with the addition of a first-come-first-served listed for any returned spots). So I'd base your plans on that.
But as long as you are on the ball it won't be an issue, just make sure you get on that first-come-first-served list, as and when it happens.
Or ask the UK community as a team with a long track record of success to give you a wildcard spot. I'd give up my wildcard spot for you guys (if I had one), because I'd think you'd have a better chance of success (and success gives us more slots in the future, which gives me more chance of making it next time, etc)

Controversial? How? They have been a top 5 team in the UK for the past few years and giving them a wildcard spot would be a demotion more than a gift. If you agree on me on the later then yep, controversial.
Or we agree to give one spot in the wildcard to Cosmic (controversial)

I think the name 'wildcard' is a misnomer (as I also said last year) it's really a pre-qualifying tourney for lower ranked teams... It's just easier to call it wildcard rather than pre-qualifying tourney for lower ranked teams.
Could cosmic attempt to qualify by going to say the Irish champs and taking one of their spaces?! :)
For the record I would also personally recommend a uk wildcard place to go to them, this isn't the same as offering them yomoyo's place if we qualified as I'd need the team to agree with it, I think it would be best to agree this before the uk champs.
Is there anyone willing to say they shouldn't get a wildcard place?
I also think we should give spring break a wildcard place, this would give them a chance to play on the courts for a bit the day before and would mean more uk teams in the euros as they are pretty much certain of qualifying!
-
• #165
Why not come to Scandanavia and take one of our slots while your at it ; )
-
• #166
Well I've heard that one of the best Irish players is coming to the uk qualies and will go to euro on a uk slot, I assume you are trying from scandie... One more and cosmic would just be evening out for the Irish players in other countries :)

Either the wildcard is open and Cosmic go, or the wildcard is based on the next 3 teams after the ones who go straight to the main tourney. You can't just have a special route for one team because they're nice guys.
Who's the "we" who decides this stuff anyway? Josh and Hayden? Josh Hayden and
John H? Just John H? -
• #168
I was using the 'we' of uk bike polo. Whoever's running the tourney is doing just that, but if there was to be an exception made it would need to be a consensus of everyone. If you don't agree that maybe an exception should be made for a team who have proven themselves in the past but can't make it to the champs then I don't think it will happen.
Although I assume someone giving up their slot for cosmic (as John H suggested he would) would be acceptable?
-
• #169
If John H wants to give up his slot, that's his decision but if we want polo to be a proper sport you can't determine the line up of the European Championships through backroom deals.
Either that place goes to the next seeded team or it goes into the Krakow free-for-all pot.

You disputing Cosmic's worth Em? Maybe set a date?
-
• #171
No, I'm not disputing their worth, I'm saying the rules should be the same for everyone.
Otherwise its like the FIA letting Ferrari onto the front half of the grid without even bringing a car to qualifying. Yes it's a historical team but that's not how qualifiers work.
-
• #172
Hey I know, let's give Sheffield Wednesday the 4th Champions League slot for the English FA this year, it's a historical team and they've been top of the league before.
No, because they haven't qualified and the rules are the same for any english team who want to play in the Champions League.

The F1 is a licensed based competition, a better example will be the UCL, top 2 in the UK qualifies, 3rd and 4th goes into the playoff, simillar to us no? They are getting a wild card of which if they played I would bet ya they would be top 6, not good enough a compromise?

Read your post again. "3rd and 4th goes into the playoff" Not a non-entrant, right? It doesn't matter what would happen "IF they played": either anyone can be a wildcard or all wildcard slots are based on Saturday seedings.

I understand the idea of no exceptions, it's just sucky that there's only one weekend that a team can qualify through... Which is acceptable when players are professional, but in an amateur sport it would be nice to accept that life might get in the way!
But I never thought it would happen, just wanted to voice that I would be happy for it to happen. I was kind of hoping no one would disagree... How foolish of me.
