  • ^ harsh. The more visible you are on your bike the better even though they do look crap.

Nonsense - they perpetuate the myth that as cyclists it is our responsibility to do drivers seeing for them and that if they fail to spot us in normal conditions we are somehow at fault for not looking like a fucking bellend.

I'm talking about at night. If you don't think its the cyclist responsablity to make themselves visible at night than you're a fucking bellend

Stupid argument. It's obviously better to wear some sort of high visibility jacket at night than none at all, even if its a nodder vest like that. Fair enough you might have something nicer. I hate the vanity over safety argument.

I don't, I make myself visible by riding in a good position and using lights at night. High vis is shit in the dark anyway, you need reflective crap at night if you want to go down that route.

Those jackets have reflective bands on them. I Agree that the fluro yellow is useless and I didn't mean they should substitute lights. Anyway should probably get off the soap box, it's just a major pet peeve of mine.

I'm in two minds regarding this...

I have a hi-vis bag cover that I use occasionally, particulary in winter as my backpack is black, and I know in wet misty conditions it works quite well. I also ride with lights on every morning, and whenever it is overcast or dark. I also have hi-vis Defeet gloves for winter. However, I think every cyclist wearing hi-vis starts "conditioning" motorists to only see cyclists when they are wearing hi-vis. I manage to see black cars and pedestrians dressed in dark clothing. I don't mind the mandatory helmet law in Australia, but there was discussion of making hi-vis mandatory for cyclists in South Australia, which I think is going a bit too far.

  • I won't argue about whether they are a good idea or not, I just hate them, regardless

  • Conversions

It was made for gears you fuckers!

Remind me where your track bike is for?

  • Deep Carbon rims on a bike with BMX Pedals.

  • Remind me where your track bike is for?

I'm not saying anything where a bike should be, I'm saying that the frame was made for gears

I wouldn't put gears on my track frame.

  • I'm not saying anything where a bike should be, I'm saying that the frame was made for gears

I wouldn't put gears on my track frame.

And you keep it absolutely 100% track legal and with a proper track gearing do you?

  • You say they were made for gears and show your ignorance. Horizontal drops let you run fixed over the winter whilst your groupset sits in the garage/LBS.

  • Chrome steel rims as commonly found on 3 speeds, especially when they are rusty;

  • Cottered cranks

  • Brakeless ss conversions, seen 3 since I got to Melbourne. Makes me angry.

  • Brakeless ss conversions, seen 3 since I got to Melbourne. Makes me angry.

    This makes me more angry.

    But yeah, brakeless SS. WTF?

  • Surely thats brakeless geared. Which is much better. As it means he'll go faster before not being able to stop, and road crayon that fecking smirk off his face.

  • ^ harsh. The more visible you are on your bike the better even though they do look crap.

I make myself seen with my jaunty look at me attitude.

  • Be mildly entertaining if hi-viz was made a legal requirement for everyone- every car dressed in emergency response vinyl reflecto-stripes.

  • Mildly entertaining and totally jackass on an industrial scale...

  • And you keep it absolutely 100% track legal and with a proper track gearing do you?

I haven't said anything about my bike being 100% track legal, because it isn't.
I stuck road forks on so it wasn't so tight and I wouldn't get as much toe overlap when I'm riding.

You say they were made for gears and show your ignorance. Horizontal drops let you run fixed over the winter whilst your groupset sits in the garage/LBS.

Yeah 'they let you run' doesn't mean thats what it was made for....

  • Tidy little contradiction.

  • Hating on conversions is just stupid elitism, not everyone can afford a track frame as their first bike and would like to give fixed a go, what's even the point of using a track frame

  • campagnolo nr/sr seatpost with bastard bolts

  • There're plenty of valid reasons for riding a conversion.
    Size
    Price
    Comfort
The ability to add mudguards, racks etc
How easy old road frames are to find all over he world
They don't all need to look or ride bad either, just look at SadR's!
