  • Because this saves money?

  • are they easy to get hold of ?? 50 year ols track frames ??

all started with wanted to put an old ride back into action. but thanks for your wonderful input..

  • Did it have to be 50 years old?

  • not at all this build started off looking for a cheap frame needed for a fixie build.

at the bottom of the wanted pile was a Ken Charlson unloved frame that i decided to re ignite life into. and have loved every minute of bringing back to life..

age is immaterial as if i hadnt picked it , it would still be in the guys loft.. so dont even start on the age front.. if you are bothered i can sell you another 50 yo to save. just give us a shout fella

seems to be eveyone wants to save them but nobody wants to take the jump ..

  • Don't want one thanks. Just your post above was talking about 50 yo track frames. Didn't understand the point of the age reference.

Out of interest how much did the welding set you back?

  • welding cost me £20 and was worth it definately

just had a lot of stick early on from opinionated members who saw me as easy fray for a slagging but for no reason.. anyway its all about the bikes and im really pleased to add this one to my collection and cant wait to get riding it again.. i have a couple of modern Carbon bikes but there is something about riding an older bike that i am loving.

  • The welding is a lot cheaper than I thought.

Do you know the bb drop yet or the crank length you will use? Does the possibility of having to use short cranks or having pedal strikes bother you.

  • £20 for that tig job, or nothing at all and ride it as it is.

    Can't see anything wrong here.

  • it does but its going to be a honour ride saved for best for me.. its the best i can offer it due to its age i guess..
i have other bikes for other purposes this has turned into purely a pleasure ride i havent any measurements yet for BB clearance or the lieklyhood of pedal strike but its not going on the track its not a racing machine, it wont be riden hard so i will chill on the corners it it catches..

like i said its in a stable of 7 bikes so purely pleasure..

i like the hobby side of things and will give this an easy life
may commute on nice days but il have a smile on my face when i do..
at the minute its only for Mcr group rides when playing in the city

  • stayed out till now, cause i didnt wanna get flamed for my opinion, now that it has track ends, hope the fork has nice clearence as well... maybe go for some pearl white powdercoat and try to restore the old paint job with vinyl/car wrap (as an alternative to a expensive proper lack job)? anyhow, the frame got the attention here it wouldn't get for 50 more years rotting in a basement... wish you a lot of fun with it!

  • Thanks FredyCro..
the frame was badly refurbed.. it was white.. but it wasnt cycle paint it looked like gloss.. when it was stripped there are mini areas of a green/blue looking residue on there so i have no guide as to what colour it originally was. so i have nothing to go on. all i know is the original pics i posted are nothing like how it was from day one.. so a fresh start and a bucket of money cant do it no harm. iv had a set of KC decals cut so it will look a million times better than its sorry state i recieved it in.. i think i have all bases covered here as i have both 27 and 700 wheels for it.. may not be original but im sure it will have a great future coming its way

  • hope the fork has nice clearence as well...

What makes you think the rear end will have 'nice' clearances?

  • lets be serious here the rear is now 10-15mm lower..

what difference is it really going to make at the BB ?? 5-7mm

will it really be that detrimental to the ride???

  • lets be serious here the rear is now 10-15mm lower..

I was talking about tyre clearances.

  • rear clearance is fine .!!!!! plenty of measuring and not a lot of chopping ensured this.. il take pic and post tomorrow hopefully..

might be hard if i ever wanted mudguards on there.. but nothing a set of crud 2 wont fit in if i ever sell..
with us all being mindfull of only being custodians !!!

  • It's going to handle like a wheelbarrow. The already slack angles have now been made even more slack.

  • Wouldn't dream of putting track dropouts on it

    oh

  • handle slack..!!!!!

the problem where is everone has an opinion
early on how dare i cut lugs off
mid way you might as well finish but fit track ends or it will look shite
near end.. it will be slack and handle like wheel barrow
if i listened to you all it would be dead now like it was in the loft storage cell

what is wrong with you lot?? always got a downer on things..

wait till the end and we can take some measurements !!!!
you can have your say but keep stabbing at me and it will get put on the back burner.. jesus im dambed if i do or dont..
im sure im not the first to revive and mod a frame and i wont be the last.

why not just add plus comments to the build,? cant get over all the backstabbin on here. everyone is a Pro bike expert..

if its not to your taste dont push your unique opinion on me so its slack gonna be ridden slow and in your opinion the wrong colour also ...really.!!!! so what..

im loving it and thats all that matters. met me finish it FFS .. i can take critism.. but not all the contrasting opinions on the build.. no true direction from you all but everyone feels like i should have left it in the loft to rott from the insite terminally..

only a little love and its really appreciated

should i dump the Ken Charlson decals and fit some cunt stickers..???? or maybe twat ones.. how disrespectful are they to an original builder

  • oh

maybe you lot cant make your mind up.. but thanks for taking the time to read through the posts before your opinion...

so is it better or worse with track dropouts. in your opinion ??

just so we all can take note

  • Considering it already had near horizontal dropouts, it was pretty pointless.

  • Ribble. Just ignore them. There's a hole and you're digging it.

  • in your opinion !!!

  • im loving it and thats all that matters.

If your enjoyment is all that matter then why did you post the thread?

  • Why can't I share my build experience you like minded people ??

    Well a few anyway !!

Remember we're all here for the bikes aren't we ??

  • If your enjoyment is all that matter then why did you post the thread?

he wants endorsement from the fickle members of lfgss
