Anyone ridden in the forest recently?

@BareNecessities Last week. About 25 miles of slow slow slippy progress (sometimes negative progress) on travel contacts. The fire roads were worse than I've ever seen them, just slush. The rest was quite flooded but passable, not rutted up to hell so imagine it's been quiet over winter. My guards clogged up alot but that doesn't mean much.

Nono! I stayed till about 11 and then had a hair raising ride back in the dark on treadless tires!

Ah ok. I've been there plenty of times in the dark, but never for the whole night :-)

Haha! It was appropriate, just for someone with more talent than I.
Anyway, you can't measure rad in appropriateness..

@7Üp Where's that overlooking spot? Was up there on Monday and it was awesome! Pure iced over slush. Some spots you had to mash it over or risk being trapped in ankle deep gunk.
it's a pretty big place for what it is. I have no idea why some off roading lot hate it. -

Looks like close to the top of Claypit Hill, overlooking Waltham Abbey.

Took my 16 nephew for a spin round there today, me on 'cross him on 29er. I like Epping in the rain as the mud is wet enough to not grip your tyres and jam everything up. Proper boggy though and I saw my rear wheel in my peripheral vision more than once, especially descending through Hawk Wood.
I managed to keep up purely by having mud2 fitted to my bike and an intermediate tyre fitted to his so he had no grip. It's not cheating because I offered him a set of mud tyres for his bike but being 16 I knew he wouldn't bother fitting them.

Evening ride on Tuesday 9th anyone?
-
• #1670
Very dry and fast at the moment - sadly can't make evenings.
Managed to put together my longest Epping ride yesterday, with not too much getting lost or back-tracking. After riding in the forest reasonably regularly (at least in summer) for the last three years I feel like I'm finally getting to know it. Still finding new paths, hills and views though, yesterdays being Yardley Hill.

Hoping to do a little ride on either the 24th or 25th of this month, if anyone's about.
