  • Beer, the drink that eats like a meal...

  • Just back from 35 miles, had a glass of milk and waiting for my food to come. Fish soup and confit duck!

  • I just had a Hot Cross Bun, filled with Almond Butter.
    Reeeeeeally tasty.

  • Scrambled Eggs on Toast. and Tea.

  • Well today I had a chicken & sweet potato curry. Was awesome.

Croissants with peanut butter and a cup of tea is also awesome.

I can imagine this being good. Will have to try.

  • A pint of milk in the blender, add 2 bananas, two heaped tablespoons of smooth peanut butter, maple syrup - a delicious shake that gives recovery protein and some replacement carbs. Couple of black coffees (caffeine helps protein absorb) and a litre of water during shower. Then onto 8%+ Belgian beer for the evening (Kwak or Chouffe a favourite) to undo the whole endeavour.

  • Two marmite and cheese sandwiches

  • I tried bananas (even slightly green) ones in milk but it was so sweet it made me woozy. Cannot imagine adding maple syrup to it!

  • Two marmite and cheese sandwiches

You either hate it, or you really really hate it.

  • Everything in the house. #obvs

+1 (not affraid of getting fat in the winter, as long as it keeps me 10+ hours on the bike every week, turning them cranks man).

  • Generally I have a glass of chocolate milk with a serving of (chocolate) protein powder. Tastes great and gives me carbs and protein for recovery. Seemed to get me through Festive 500 nicely, where I was doing long rides on consecutive days.

That has to go in within 30 mins of stopping, though. I get back, stretch, chug that down THEN jump in the shower, no matter how tempting it may be to skip the first one or two.

I'll have a proper meal soon after - usually something carb-heavy with rice or pasta - but the shake seems to make the difference.

Also try scrambled egg and peanut butter sandwiches (on toasted bread). Trust me here, lads...

I like a slight variant on this: 2 bananas, 2 tablespoons of oats, 2 tablespoons of frozen mixed berries, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, about 1 pint of milk.

  • If I've had a good long ride i.e. 50+ miles I go all out, roast dinner and at least 1 bottle of red wine between 2 or maybe a hearty pasta dish. If you've earner it, you've earned it!

Usually followed by collapsing into an early nights sleep. It's one of my favourite aspects of cycling.

  • And that right there is what this thread is all about. The big sexy nosh up you earn while out on the bike.

  • Qfmfnt =

adding (protein powder) to granola bars/ flapjack is the thing of true champions

in the door from a ride, it's a glass of milk with a big spoon of peanut butter...

  • Didnt know where to put this and couldnt be arsed to start a new thread.

Doe's anyone have salt cravings ?
For the past month or so, with riding increase I crave plain salted crisps....
I already eat a good diet.
    Anyone ?

  • Definitely after a ride. I often end up eating peanuts or crisps. I guess it makes sense as you're using up salt by riding...?

  • not necessarily after i ride.
I rode in to work this morning.
and im munching a packet now, plus I just had an electrolyte drink so i shouldnt in theory need more salt ??

  • It's completely normal. Do you eat sweet energy food during the ride (bars, gels)? You need a little contrast to that by eating something salty, ideally halfway through the ride (obviously depends on its length--if you ride four times as far as you're comfortable with without eating savoury, stop three times). Crisps aren't actually very good in that (surprise). Soup is the best, but you can also eat other savoury things. As I often can't find decent vegan food during a ride in the countryside, I take samosas. You don't have to eat much to satisfy this craving. In fact, eating too much will make you feel worse on the bike. During the Dunwich Dynamo, one cup of soup was usually perfect for me. You can eat more when you've finished the ride.

  • ^ funny you should mention the sweet, because I ate the best part of a big bag of fruit pastilles before lunch.
So it's just my body adjusting to the exercise increase ?
    I have lost weight too.

  • Now you've mentioned soup, that would be perfect.

  • Salt helps your body retain fluids - so it makes sense that, if slightly dehydrated, your body would crave that sort of thing.

  • ahh ok. ^
