I'm a bit confused about Merckx bikes... are they all Columbus tubed?
pre-'69 he didn't ride Merckx bikes and after that it was bikes built by others, amongst whom Colnago, De Rosa and a Belgian builder, Kessels.
Who built this bike?

Eeerrrr a Belgian? Not sure who doe. From what you say, Kessels?
-
• #29
interesting, I have no idea. I mean the tubes are Columbus and the paint says Merckx, but what is it?
Did-you-know edit: at Peugeot Merckx had to pay for his wheels and tyres...LOL

What swine said. The only reason I even said Belgium is because it has a handmade in Belgium sticker on it. I have no idea where its from...
-
• #32
proper Merckx manufacturing
which was where? Belgium right? What about the De Rosa Merckx's?
Merckx is a brand, not a framebuilder guys....
-
• #33
Yes. The De Rosa built frames were from his racing days, as you said above. His hour record frame was built by Ernesto Colnago himself. Throughout his career he depended on others to build his frames.
Obviously he didn't build them himself once he retired, but he did set up shop. The very earliest of these frames still had the input of Colnago and De Rosa, until production remained entirely in-house and independent as his business became established. Yes it's a brand like any other but they're very desirable, as are the Kessels frames. The same can't be said of the Falcons.

I am really keen to get more mileage in, and currently I feel only having fixed bikes restricts me in doing so, somewhat.
It doesn't, it really doesn't.

IF I were to sell it, 285 which is what I paid. But I'll see if I can sell the Leader first.
This first.
Leader make great electricity bill.

^^Notice the word somewhat.
Already sold Leader for way more than it's worth and still don't have enough money haha.
And yes Apollo, when I have money, only thing I want to change is the seat post and obviously build wheels. Then I am good to go.

Why don't you just get a card with 0% interest on balance transfer to cover the costs of the bill?
just a thought.
-
• #45
Virgin, at the moment they are offering 0% transfers (well, there is a 3% fee or something), and get this, they will send the money to your bank. You can use it for anything.

• #46
loan shark it.
just be careful.

I would love to Tenderloin but I am a 19 year old who has rent to pay and have never borrowed money from a bank. Nobody is gonna give me a card.
-
• #48
Ha, you're their dream come true.
Don't do it though, if you need a few hundred quid just extend your overdraft.
Hallifax were trying to force £500 on me when I was 18 am sure you'll be able to get one.
Once you balance it out, lower it again.
-
• #49
Errrrrrr what overdraft ;-) HSBC won't give me one. Bastards. Could really do with one right now! Anyway, enough money talk. It will all be fine :-)

forgive the question, but might you be rushing things? what bikes you gonna buy in 10 years time if you had a built up Merckx with Ti Record and a full NJS Panasonic?
I vote for sell, get your finances in order and ride the Panny into the ground.
You know it will be the sickest ratbike ever to grace the forum in a few years time!!
i have first dibs
