I've set myself the target of running a distance equal to 10% of the distance which I cycle.
-
• #28
2010 - 535 race miles
2011 - 500 race miles
2012 - 430 race miles
2013 - if we get some decent weather, probably about 500 againEverything which is not measured by CTT course measurers is counted by time, not distance because an hour on the MTB is about 12 miles, and hour on the rollers is about 36 miles

Like the idea, but don't like running...

I don't really care about how many miles I do, just so long as I complete the last one.

And remember to check/change your cleats.

Just checked on Garmin and it says 4,200mi in 2012.
Looking at some of the numbers up there that seems low given I did some racing, climbed all of the '100 climbs', plus the Marmotte, Fred Whitton etc. Most of my weekends were taken up with riding Are high-mileage types all pros, couriers, or people with inordinately long commutes?

Not lowering the bar at all. Simply hoping for survival.

Of course.
Lowering the bar makes you more aero & gets the miles done quicker.
Leaving more time for other enjoyable pursuits :-)

If you're enjoying pursuits, you're doing it wrong.

2012's target was ruined by injuries.
2013 I'm aiming for 7,500 miles, but that's an arbitrary value.
I'd like to continue doing 40 miles a day, minimum of 4 days a week, and one longer ride every fortnight, about 60 miles.
That makes around 10,000 miles if I can manage to keep it up!

I find that the key to getting the miles in is getting out there EVERY day, even if it's just for a 10mi ride. Works for me anyway; it's all about self-discipline...*
*Pretending for the sake of argument that I would actually know self-discipline if it pissed me in the face...

When riding saves me £250 a month it's easy to make the decision to ride...

You only have to keep that up for 90 years to catch Chris Davies' record

I interviewed him once. What a dude.

Oh in fact I took that photo. Heh.

My 2012 commuter bike is on ebay with 6500 miles on the clock to make way for a new one in February, the single speed toy I finished building up in November has already racked up nearly 500 miles
2013 is going to be a monster mileage year for me, planning to ride JOGLE or LEJOG late summer, and autumn/winter will involve some major mileage and testing ready for a ride to Egypt Summer 2014 - on top of 150+miles a week commuting

I'm aiming for 6k non commuting, I feel I need to push myself more in terms of training.

Anything will be an improvement on my 2012 figure which was riddled with injuries.
Just getting the mind set to actually get out on the bike will be a start. Oh well small goals and all that.
Hopefully moving towards the end of this month which will result in cycling to work again every day, sounds sad but I'm excited.
Nah, a 40 mile ride each Sunday. It would take longer to carry bike downstairs/cycle/lock up than it does to walk to get cake & beer anyway, since I can see Tesco from my window.
