Just over one gallon of fuel, yes.

I usually aim for 6,000 miles per year.
Last year, I fell short as, for various reasons, I only managed around 5,300. Still, I'm happy enough with that.

I don't aim for anything. Mileage is a side-effect of getting somewhere nice for a bit and then getting home again, or blowing off some steam. It's not like I have a team/coach paying me to hit a base target in preparation for spring events or anything.

In 2012 I rode a little over 8,000 km, hoping to have reached 10,000 km by the end 2013

Well.... going to the local shop to buy cake & beer totalled approximately 78 miles in 2012. If I follow my resolution to consume more cake & beer in 2013, then I'll smash that record easily.

From next week, I hope to put in a couple of hours cycling, five days a week. No idea how that works out mileage wise, as I hope a good proportion will be in the forest if it ever dries out. If I keep this up until March I will be ahead of my time cycling in 2012. Might also help me lose the weight gained in December by attempting to reduce the world stock of mince pies.

8km is the 2013 target (non-commuting miles - which I don't bother to count)
Should be pretty achievable

The 2013 cake & beer challenge... I like it!
However, if I buy a trailer, this would allow me to transport far more cake & beer ( not forgetting chocolate, crisps, ice cream, biscuits, or indeed any of the other essential food groups ) then the required mileage will decrease substantially.
Potentially failed already* :-( (

"...40 miles a week."
Cake & beer run?
What mileage did you clock in 2012 and what is your mileage target for 2013?
Personally I revived cycling a couple of months ago after several years off the bike, and I only just recently started tracking my mileage, hence I haven't got a comparable result for 2012.
My 2013 target is 16,000mi equivalent to 500km pr. week - every week. All fixed.
