  • My wish list, in approximate order of probability:
    0. Finish the tandem
1: Finally get some rims to go on the 24h On-One/Novatec track hubs I bought nearly 2 years ago, to replace my Ellipses on 464. Chinese crabon 50mm, most likely.
2: Zipp Super9 disc for the T3, followed by an 808 front
3: Crabon wheels (Zipp 303 or Smart/Enve 3.4 if I win the lottery, otherwise Chinese 38mm) for the 585, plus X0-DH rear mech and XG1090CX cassette
4: Epic custom rollers, blatantly ripping off the inertia/shear layer ideas of TruTrainer but with 6"-8" aluminium rollers
5: 953 frame and fork to replace my Pompetamine. This needs the most work, as I fancy a 20mm through axle rigid steel fork. I think there's a standard 953 tube which will work as a fork blade, but I need to design the dropouts and crown and then get them made. Think this but 20mm, caliper tabs for 8" rotor without adapter and all stainless steel
6: Change up to 29" for my rare MTB forays, Niner Carbon f&f, Enve rims, you know, all the usual Euromillions winner's shopping list

None down, now seven to go.

  • I'm confident that some new projects will materialise before those two are complete.

Thankfully I cant qualify "ooh, I quite fancy getting one of those" as a project, or there'd be dozens on that list :-)

  • Future Projects...
    ooh...
    A fast touring bike.
Replace the racing frame (may not happen)
Build a Fixed/ Tarck/ TT (may not happen)
Build a chilled roadie for town with a basket.
And maybe a SSCX for hipster points. (may not happen)

  • Switch to 29'' for mtb
Buy a road frame which actually fits me
Split the fixed gear into a TT specific bike and a more wintery/sensible SSCX kinda build

  • I'm toying with the idea of a road bike, lighter and more aero than my Donhou, probably carbon with deep rims. I like Planet X's N2A deal, but hate the graphics. What's out there in plain carbon? I know you can get knock-off carbon copies from China but how easy is it to buy them, and what's the quality like?

This is all just idle thoughts at the moment...

  • Given the state of the summer so far my number one priority is to get my wet weather road bike finished.

    There's a thread for that.

  • There's a thread for that.

    Spot on, thanks.

  • Im sorely tempted by an FM-066 (Cervelo R3 rip off) and some 38mm carbon clinchers..

steal the SRAM stuff off the alan....

    Maybe...

  • A bike that fits.

Rethought this after excitement... fast tourer confirmed, replace roadie (maybe) and chilled townie (hopeful). Might SS the CX but maybe not...

  • I'm trying to decide whether or not to build this up again :-/

  • Gonna race DH?

  • Do I even race :-)

I might ride it downhill, although its quite good for technical climbs too as you get loads of traction.

  • Couple of mates used to have Stabs and Stinkys of that era, they were heavy but they rode pretty nicely, and the Coiler is slightly lighter as well.

  • It's a nice and simple design, though not the most efficient and no, not light by any means. This Coiler has 6" of travel, but I remember when the Stinky had only 5" ( possibly 4" at one point? ). Nothing like today's freeride monsters.

If I build it, I'm considering swapping to an air shock to trim some of the weight. Most of the decent forks now are air and I like being able to fine tune without having to faff about changing springs.

  • Forgot all about this thread

    1) A Surly Ogre frame to replace my Surly LHT as an everyday utility bike. ( deposit paid )

    Bought, and recently sold.

    2) Custom designed Titanium mtb frame. ( Depends very much on my budget & earnings next year )

    Went with steel Talbot.

    3) A fast road bike with disc brakes. I haven't seen anything out yet that ticks all the boxes for me, but as road riding isn't my main thing, I'd prefer to get something mass produced ( undecided on frame material )

I guess this predates 'gravel'. Probably wouldn't bother now.
