• length? I might be

  • I'll assume @boredom is doing a pseudo-dibs. Also interested...

  • I've not heard anything from him so perhaps not? Happy to sell to whoever gets there first...

  • Yeah sorry slipped my mind today, I'd be looking for 175 so fire away, thanks though

  • Let me know if you're keen. Will put a proper for sale as up shortly if not but if I can shift it without having to that would be good!

It is in good working order but there is some of the usual heel rub from using it with winter shoes.

  • Thanks but I think in honesty I'll just buy a new one. I've not read great things about stages approach to problems and I know the warranty wasn't transferrable in the past so I don't want to have problems and be stuck with basically just a slightly worn crank.

  • I've got a 4iiii version 6800 175mm which has been flawless, am still wavering as to whether to sell it or not. Drop me a message if interested.

  • Anyone got any experience with the Velocomp Aeropods?
CDA data seems like a fun thing to play around with.

  • Well I'm not sure if I'm looking tbh, I have some quarq elsa rs cranks to put on, but I think it's kinda overkill for me atm as I don't do a huge amount on the road, so I was tempted to sell them and just do a stages for cheaper.

I'll have a think on it and let you know, thanks either way

  • Oh look, an update from iQsquare that is not 'shipping soon!'

  • I'm going to get the garmin pedals... dual sided for under 550 quid with the discount seems okay for me.

I got in early on iQsquare but I viewed it as a gamble; I'm 50-50 on whether it'll ever ship. That said, the vitriol on some sites about it is amazing... it's a fucking Kickstarter, of course it's a bit hit and miss.

  • Anyone seen any 165mm PM cranks kicking about?

I'm honestly tempted to throw Stages on so I can run less-faffy Shimano crank without spending £1000 on their PMs. Or have they come down in price yet?

  • Same thing. DFour is for Shimano rings, init?

  • Yeah looks it. But I don't run Shimano rings now so that's not too much of an issue.
Maybe it would be good to run SHimano rings again. But what of the crank arm and BB options?
They all look to be GXP BBs which would work with my 68mm eng bb then it's SRAM arms or Quarq arms. They look similar to me, are they just rebadged? Or is there any actual quality difference?

I like the Quarq bolt mount compared to the lockring on Rotor.
Also they use a more common battery than P2M.

  • I have two quarq dfours, very happy with both of them.

  • Yeah, the guys I know with them are happy, I've just never used them myself so the whole range is a bit of a 'what the?'

  • The spindles are either GXP or BB30/BBright (long enough to fit most BBs)

Arms are removable, and largely have the 8 bolt pattern, unless the spider is older and it has the Sram 3 bolt pattern (or you have the Specialized cranks)

If you don’t go for the DFour and Shimano rings, spiders are either standard 5 bolt, or 5 bolt sram hidden ring.

  • Apart from having to use the slightly more expensive GXP BB instead of a Shimano HT2 BB, I have Zero complaints with my dZero in nearly 2 years of use. I really don't know how the batteries last for so long, even when stored outside in the winter?!

Hippy, your thought on Stages is interesting - It would certainly solve a problem and allow you to use the cranks you want. People say that left-only PM's are not as accurate; is that really a problem for 2-week ultra races, or do you see pedalling imbalances over the course of a race?

  • I have BSA30 on the Rotors now and it doesn't leave a lot of room in the shell for Di2. I can't tell any difference between 30mm and 24mm spindles so that's not an issue. So long as GXP bearings don't fail more often than the shitty BSA30 bearings.

  • I've never looked at pedal balance. I give 0 fucks about that metric. I either make x watts or something is wrong and I don't make x watts. I think newer Stages is meant to have improved somewhat and for steady state ultra stuff it's probably fine and dandy but then I use the bike for everything else as well so would feel dirty having Stages on it. Is see a Quarq in my future...

  • Pretty easy to find Duraace 9000 165mm stages cranks on eBay, easier than the cranks themselves...

You could go for the rotor inpower but no idea whether they are any good.

  • Yeah, I don't know anyone with INpower so I've not bothered looking at them.

For the £3-400 of a set of DA cranks though I may as well get the Quarq. #justificationz

  • haven't looked this up but from memory there were two different bb standards, three types of chain ring attachment and a variety of crank lengths....
