• Told them I got it in the UK but there's no european/UK support email address (or even section) on their site and haven't heard a peep since.

Probably a trump executive order. Can't be dealing with these foreigners.

  • Looks like P2M will give discounts with the code word 'brexit'

  • Tweeted Pioneer US asking how to update the PM in the UK what with US support going radio silent when they found out where I was. Got a response via email about 5 minutes later from them with the .exe, just waiting for my dongle to arrive now...

Apparently later firmware versions don't need the magnet attached to the chainstay, which is handy as I've read that it falls off quite easily.

  • The power of social media. Nice work

  • All that cash and tech and you have a magnet on your chainstay?

  • Yes, like some kind of caveman.

  • Pioneer; good product, crap customer service. Beats..

Me: your power meter range is crap
Stages: have you tried using your phone in aeroplane mode?

  • Haha, that's amazing. How are they suggesting your phone is affecting it?

Also, Pioneer support hasn't been that bad, I suppose. Could've been coincidence that my tweet and their email response were at about the same time...

  • The signals coming from the Garmin, phone, or wireless network can all
interfere and overrun the ANT+ signal coming from the Stages as they
all compete for space along the 2.4 GHz band. So, please adjust the
appropriate settings, and if you ride with a cell phone, please turn
it off or place it into airplane mode.

They've sent me a long list of homework.

  • Wifi? On a bike ride?

In Pioneer news, my ANT+ dongle turned up tonight and I'm pleased to say the firmware update process appears to have been an absolute piece of piss. Plug in dongle, open installer, type in ANT+ ID, watch it install (for about 2 mins). Done.

  • They are talking shit - mobile phone transmissions are not in the 2.4 GHz band. Most protocols in the 2.4 GHz band implement frequency hopping, to precisely avoid interference. You can get it, but normally you'd need to be in an area with high volumes of transmitters, which you're very unlikely to encounter on a bike ride.

  • My Garmin is repeatedly losing contact with my G3 hub, even after I have replaced the battery.

What are the usual troubleshooting steps for these things?

  • Looking to spunk a £1k cycle2work voucher on powermeter this week thanks to the offerings of a friendly store.
I saw positive mention of quarq elsa rs/dfour in here earlier which is great as i'm coming from an Ultegra 6800 chainset and could continue to use my current chainrings.
However, it has dawned on me that i could make the switch to the 5 arm version and purchase some Rotor No Q Aero chainrings allowing me to try out the Ovals some day in the future.
I appreciate that this isn't the chainring thread but you lot change your cranksets more than anyone else. Is this a good buying decision?

  • 6800 rings on quarq will look ugly anyways. 5-arm seems to come with more chainring options overall.

  • Excellent, appreciate the agreement.
Quarq 5arm and Aero rings it is then. How very exciting.

  • According to powermeter24.de and other people online you cant run the NoQ Aero rings on a Quarq PM because of the battery. You can still run the non-aero rings, which is what I'm doing. Imo its still a better option than running the DFour, atleast if you dont want a mismatched chainring/crankset combo.

  • I have the old style P2M which has a big battery piece and have cut the chainrings to fit. Has worked fine on 3 different rings in the last 3 years.

  • Get a newer P2m (type s or NG) and you can run any rings you want. I think

  • ah damn, i did see one example on google images of this working but it might have been the 130BCD.
Potential that the DZeros dont have this issue?
I guess i'll find out on saturday as the order is already in.

Looks to me like you can remove the battery casing entirely using a T10, fit the ring and then refit it?

  • They won't work with 4-bolt 110bcd or 104bcd MTB rings or Fibrelyte aero DA9000 rings or anything that's not 110 or 130 bcd 5-bolt actually.

  • Anyone here tried a powerpod ?

  • Not sure, when I asked if it was possible i got a no. I have a DZero so i can take a better look once i get home

  • I have a dfour, and it works brilliantly with both 105 chainrings and dura ace ones, I already had a range of chain rings and until I can afford a second PM for the road bike it made sense to buy the slightly more expensive dfour so I can switch it between bikes!as my tt bike has a 55 on it and I prefer 52x36 on the road bike. I'm not really that fussed about how my bike looks though.
