• Let me know how you get on, I'm in no huge rush.

  • Anyone know where I can get some 3/32 Powertap/White Industries sprockets? Hubjub seem to have stopped carrying them.

  • That's bad news, I still need a 13t

  • Aspire Velo Tech are good for all that US made stuff, now at avt.bike thanks to modern top level domains. No small 3/32" ones at the moment, but if anybody can get them it will be AVT, and they have good CS so they will actually try to get them

  • You're all making me feel like a wuss for wanting a semi-compact for Mallorca. Will go with 38x27 bottom gear and if bad things happens I can blame you all.

But still want a 110bcd powermeter because hate swapping between bikes, so if anyone has a power2max or quarq hit me up.

  • 110bcd seems to sensible option to me. You can still fit 53/39 if you want. 52/36 is a great combo if you have a couple cassettes.

There are plenty of Climbs long enough to warrant gearing that allows you to hold Your preferred cadence. My stronger bud (FTP 360W) rode up all the hills in 34:28. I'd have called him a wuss if I could have gotten Close enough.

  • 360W? How big is he?

I'm a rather more pedestrian 280W @ 69kg at this current point in time which I think should be fine for 90rpm with 38x27 up most hills without wrecking myself, but I have a bad habit of going hard on the early days and then suffering on day 3 and 4.

  • That was a while back. Pretty sure he tested 355w when he was around 79kg. Probably similar ratio now though.

I'm just under 300w at 76kg, which sounds amazing to me. But compared to the local Club riders its weak. One of my local 5min Climbs (1,6km, at 6%) was done in 3:35 a month ago. By a guy I ride With that held over 500w the Whole way up.

I have a better beard though.

In more related News. There are lovely flat rides to be had in Mallorca. So just schedule in some recovery spinning.

  • Just take what you want. Don't listen to other people when it comes to gearing. Some people love grinding away at 60rpm.

  • This.

Although I will reserve the right to caution against anyone going to the Alps with a 39x23 bottom gear "as those climbs are just long, not steep like the insert your local steep hills here."

  • Sa Calobra is a 41min Climb (well it was for me pre-season). Thats more than long enough.

I blame the amount of 20min intervals. and the fact that I base my FTP on 20mins. For the fact that anything over 25mins requires such careful gear selection and pacing.

  • Puig Major adds another 3.5 miles on that. Although the gradient is ridiculously smooth so it is perfect for picking your gear/pace and just keep on keeping on

  • Cyclopowermeters were doing 20% off Quarq a few days ago, on their Facebook page

There really isn't anything nasty climb wise in Majorca, unless you're climbing in 30+ degrees heat and need some respite

  • Pretty sure we did that too.

Coll de sa Batalla was my favorite though. Nice and short With loads of cool turns.

  • After three days and 9000m 39x28 was killing me!

  • Was that when we went? Had no idea you were on 39, I'm pretty sure our bikes were 50-34

  • Nah that was the tour of Mt Blanc last May.

  • Power2max special offer

890 euro for rotor 3d30 cranks, power meter, including chainrings tools and bb (even if you spec the ceramic bearings)

  • What's that - about £1500 these days?

  • madbargainz

  • Yeah saw that, would have been all over it if the pound had any worth.

  • With all the free stuff it would usually be 1282 euro, so a significant saving.

  • power2max arrived, one set installed onto commuto x bike. just need to get the cannondale extraction tool to install the others onto my cannondale

  • Amazing - i look forward to hearing about your experience.

  • installation of BSA30 was easy - though made a couple of errors of eagerness - first time not getting cranks 180 degrees apart and forgetting one thin plastic spacer.

garmin found the power meter immediately.

have got the praxis rings for the nice bike.
