@xavierdisley OT. But I know you're the Q-Factor king.
I've a pair of shimano pedals that are 3mm longer in axle than another pair of shimano pedals.
I think I can feel this 3mm and that it's irritating my knee.Is that possible or am I just imagining it? The irritation in my knee is legit, but is the 3mm wider pedal possibly the cause?

Stupid question.
But is it not possible to move your cleats 3mm to compensate?
IMHO 3mmm is definitely enough to piss a knee off.
-
• #6954
Yes I could. Or I'll just buy another pair of pedals that don't give me 3mm extra on the axle.

6mm total? It could be yes, worth isolating if you can. Especially if you're a rider that would find a 6mm adjustment elsewhere (eg. saddle setback/height) an immediate issue, you could find Q Factor to be similar.
One of the things we were trying to do with our research was to help people think about the bike in 3 dimensions, rather than just adjustments side on/2D/whatever. At one point we were going to rig up strain gauges all over handlebars and TT bars to find out stresses etc. with wide and narrow bars too.

Thank xav. Yes 6mm total, each pedal spindle is 3mm longer.
When I first got on it, I just had the sensation my legs were wider that before. Without even measuring.
I'll swap pedals around tomorrow and see how it is with the shorter spindle. As far as I can see, both cranks (different brand) are the same Q-factor. Ultegra 6800 and Rotor 3d plus.

I found speedplay helped me minimize q-factor. Basically the fact that I can Lock the float out to prevent my heel moving too far in (without interferring With my normal pedal stroke of course). Means I can really slam my cleats out.
Funny thing is i do 4 hour rides on my fatbike, With a q-factor of several fecking meters. I cant put much Power Down on that bike though.

In powermeter News. Mine is still in German customs. Cant believe I paid over £30 postage to have it sit around.
Everything has come together nicely after over-Cooking myself in Mallorca. I feel recovered, and all the niggles have died Down. While I've actually still been moving forward With my training (albeit carefully). I've moved from epic amounts of sweetspot, to adding in threshold intervals, and just now to a few 3 - 5min supra threshold intervals. It would be a really good time to test myself. Grrrr.
I'm a cronic over trainer though. So when the endless days start. I'll likely just ride myself into the ground again..........

Can't ride speedplay, too high maintenance.
Shame about your P2M, mine was speedy.

I'm outside the EU. Marked it as worth 30euro, and as a 'repair return'. Should have cruised through customs.
To be Clear P2M have been great so far. Really speedy correspondance. I'm expecting a quiet period now though. Germans love their easter hols almost as much as the Norwegians.
Not sure why my trainer road set up is so off. But its a constant factor it seems. So from a pure training perspective. I have a watt number to go by. Just have to adjust my TSS after.

I suspect that with a lot of people the Q Factor requirements change the more sat up you are. We never actually tested that though
-
• #6962
Thats an interesting thought, makes sense.
-
• #6963
This makes a lot of sense. While my saddle height is the same on all my bikes. The Reach on my off road bikes is far less than that of my road bikes.

I'm still waiting for one of the Hollowgram crank arms from Evans. Almost a month now...
£1300 worth of Zipp disc sitting around and I can't use it and I STILL need to get the P2M to suit.

Basically CSG UK has to beg the mothership for stock. If you tell them who you are things might move a bit quicker.

Ha!
"Do you know who I am?!" Would never come from me. If I was on the receiving end I'd bump them further down the list.
Strange I can be patient with some things but others I go mental at.

Does anyone know if it's possible to change crank arms on a rival p2m?
-
• #6972
Classic or S-type?
-
• #6973
S type I think
-
• #6974
Should take the Force 22 cranks, then, or different length Rival cranks.
Not sure if it will need re-calibrating though?
-
• #6975
Will work with s900 cranks too. Won't need calibrating.
Another thing... It has an in built cadence sensor so you can ditch the Garmin cadence magnet, if you have one
