• Yep - it shows cadence when I spin the cranks.

  • Wired? Sensor not close enough or oriented correctly.

Wireless? No idea. I quit the habit.

  • I've got to set aside an hour to do a proper test, NP for the CX race I did tonight was 275 watts, so I've left FTP at 300- but it's still a guess

All my testing is from racing, and my 30 minute power was down many, many watts! I'll get by though..

  • There was some fairly fierce resistance to the idea of having a training thread, so I'll put this here.

I raced last night, had to stop off at Saino's on the way home as I felt like I was starting to bonk- for the first time in years and years.

Grabbed a bottle of lucozade and all was well, went home, stuffed my face, went to bed.

One thing I noticed was that my resting heart rate was ~15 bpm higher than normal a couple of hours after the race, and when I woke up this morning (after a frankly terrible nights sleep) my HR was still ~5bpm higher than I'd expect.

Is this just fatigue, of fatigue+dehydration, or some other biological process?

I was 2kg lighter this morning than I was yesterday morning, despite drinking ALL THE WATER after my race.

  • It was so humid last night you probably evaporated double normal amount trying to keep cool in your sleep

  • And heat and HR are linked

  • Dehydration.

Blood volume decreases, blood viscosity increases, and heart works harder.

Happens a lot when you stuff your face post bonk, as your body prioritises water use for sugar dissolving.

I recommend you eat all the sugar in the house. Then drink a bath full of water.

  • Elevated resting heart rate the morning after a race is normal, it's a sign of fatigue.

The poor sleep is probably due to two things - the heat and humidity and the endorphins still in your bloodstream. If I race in the evening I always expect to sleep poorly afterwards.

The weight loss will be dehydration, despite all the water you drank.

  • And heat and HR are linked

    This too.

Your resting heart rate will be higher on much warmer days.

  • Still vapourware, no?

  • Plus a lot of bollocks in the advert- things like Normalised Power are the function of either the head-unit or WKO/similar- it's not the pedal/meter.

Still- interesting to see how they do when they arrive, finally.

  • The battery is coming out of my SRM this evening.

I may be buying the Riken Quarq pretty soon...

  • Whilst there is some truth in "you only hear complaints, never compliments" you might want to do a quick search for "Riken" on Wattage before you pull the trigger.

Some suggestions for how it might be improved include "isn't broken by rain"

  • Still vapourware, no?

Wasn't someone flogging a set on ebay recently? Did I actually see that?

  • Still vapourware, no?

Maybe. Some shops are accepting pre-orders though, so maybe not.

  • Pretty sure my lbs has been accepting pre orders for about 2 years.

  • I thought the wet weather problems were associated with the older S975 model rather than the newer Riken/Elsa/Red ones? That may of course just be wishful thinking on my part, given that I've ordered a Riken.

  • The newer ones are definitely better (based on anecdote, please bear in mind), but there are still cases of ZO never settling, settling to stupid numbers etc. however quarq are great at swapping the meter for a new one, so as long as you have another one (and you can buy two quarq for the cost of one SRM) that's I suppose not a problem.

  • Join wattage- it's free, and a great resource.

I bought my SRM from someone on there for cheap.

  • I was 2kg lighter this morning than I was yesterday morning, despite drinking ALL THE WATER after my race.

You need to drink all the water before the race as well. It's too late afterwards.

Also stock up/replenish the micronutrients you lose through sweat, such as sodium and magnesium (which plays an important role in regulating the neuromuscular activity of the heart).

  • Did a crit last night. Hrm is paggered so I don't know how fatigued I was/am, which is probably for the best.

  • Not strictly power meter related. But I have cracked and bought a Garmin Forerunner 910xt. Based on Dammits claim it will make me faster, and appear more alluring to the opposite sex.

I was going to get a Bryton Cardo watch. So I could have all my data in one place, as my bike puter is a Bryton. But this forerunner came up at the same price. So I'm converting to Garmin, and selling the Bryton.

My question to power fans is.

Is there a way to combine cycling TSS, and running work?

Or should I keep them separate. I tend to cycle loads when the weather is good, and run more when its crap. As my running shoes require less bad weather maintainance (lazy cnut, I am).

  • They reckon you can use pace to work out a TSS value for a run or swim. That's tri territory though so you're on your own. slevls >>> http://support.trainingpeaks.com/athlete-edition/training-stress-scores.aspx
