  • Well he came 6th in 2012

  • He's finished in the top ten of the Tour five times in his career. Yet no-one can remember seeing him, such is his anonymity.

    Finish times for the TT

  • A pretty good example of the standard deviation, as one would expect.

  • ...and Tony Martin

  • There are always outliers. The irony is that in this case it's a German.

  • Or a cyborg. Still not sure.

  • That's just a bad case of pink eye

  • He reminds me of someone, actually.

  • Who's that douche?

  • I don't think that's from a bike. They use a rail and a remotely operated camera AFAIK.

Was deffo a bike, there were no rails or anything there.

  • A bike riding alongside a bunch sprint?

I have no idea, but that sounds pretty dangerous.

  • Also you can see from the footage that whatever was filming was behind the barrier. Was it on a closed-off carriageway?

  • I don't think that's from a bike. They use a rail and a remotely operated camera AFAIK.

It was a bike, there was shots from a few laps earlier that showed the bike running alongside the peloton just the other side of the barrier.

  • You can just make it out...

  • As usual, Robert Millar is typically blunt in his assessment of many team's Tour;

  • Watched the final stage down at the fan park in Canary Wharf yesterday. Enjoyed the polite applause for Kittlel and for Nibbles.

  • you're assuming that the Wiggins on display this year would have been the same in 2012 and I have my doubts there given Wiggin's stated unwillingness to give it all up for the Tour unlike in 2012

No, not assuming anything - any one who has followed Wiggins over the last 5 years knows his form varies perhaps more than any rider.
But, the form he has showed this year suggested he might be at 2012 level. might.

  • Was there a crowd in th fan park yesterday? I was there for the end of Friday's stage, and there were maybe 5 other people in the whole place, despite, or maybe because of, Fosters handing out free booze. There had been a rainshower earlier, but it had cleared up by the time the race reached the sharp end.

I was also there for the end of Thursday's stage, and there were 30-40 people. Unless there was a big turnout at the weekend, can't see anyone thinking the organisers got their money's worth. Without Brits at the front, it's bound to be a loss-maker, we may not see it again.

  • It was pretty deserted. Tellingly, at least half the vendors had given up and had packed up when we arrived at four o'clock, the fosters tent was empty, but they made up for this by pumping out horrendous music that drowned out the commentary for those not sat within 100m of the screen.

There were a lot of families and groups who seemed entirely disinterested in the cycling, which made me think that predominantly locals had turned up to try and sunbathe.

It was a lovely way to watch the stage, I hope it is back next year.

A few real "oof"s in there.

  • A good point about EBH. He could have really livened up Sky's performance.

  • Wiggins would have only been seconds behind Martin in the TT

    I very much doubt that.
