4th, with no Froome, Contador or Quintana in the race. Bettered by two French riders.
Now fuck off and retire you spoiled, egomaniacal, lying, cheating bag of shit. Go and spend some quality time with your DNA.No need to be so enigmatic, tell us what you really feel.

Thought he might pinch a stage win at some point. Never really considered him for the podium before the race. Imagine he changed his goal once Froome and Contador crashed out and ended up falling short on all counts.
No, the self-deluded creep had the podium as his aim before the race. That's why Quintana didn't ride. It's hard to know if he really believed it or not. Buying the Spanish time trial championship just made him look even sadder though and, obvious as it was that he was struggling in the third week, he had to come out with tosh about having gearing problems. He has no class, no integrity, nothing.
Anyway, a good race for the French though with Contador, Froome and Quintana there and in shape they would probably have been scrapping for fifth and sixth.
I thought Voeckler was embarrassing this year. The show boating, the pointless attacks on the flat, living off past (and dubious) glories. Losing out when there were two of them in a break, it all looked even more theatrical compared to the other French riders. -

G finishes one spot and a minute ahead of Porte. Unexpected?

I don't know what you can take from Sky's Tour. Not a lot really.
Porte just doesn't look like a GT rider to me, he always seems to have at least one bad day. Thomas did okay, but I'd be surprised if he ever made the top ten of a GT as both his climbing and his TT'ing aren't quite up to it. He does okay in one week races so maybe it's a recovery issue? I hope he doesn't focus on stage races next year and continues to aim for the cobbled classics, as he's got a better chance of glory there.
Nieve did okay, but never looked like he'd win a stage. Kiryenka punched above his weight, the rest were anonymous.

Bit of a mess. Would have been fascinating to watch a lonely Froome buckle under the combined weight of a mighty Astana and T/Saxo. But we'll never know.

Porte shows the same form as all season, yet he's fucking 'Plan B', the cunts

Is Peraud the second oldest person ever to get on the podium? Poulidor got there at 38 and 40.

Kennaugh very vocal at the CG

I will never understand how Pate, Zandio and Lopez made the tour team. A fit and focused Wiggins would have come very close to winning this tour.

He was busy losing the TP to Oz in Glasgow though.

So you don't believe he got ill?

Joaquim Agostinho was 36 when he came 3rd in 1978 (the first time he got on the podium) and came 3rd again the following year.

Peraud is 37. I haven't looked at the pre-war tours.

Evans, Horner, Peraud, it's a golden age for senior riders. That Lance Armstrong would probably still do well if was willing to give it another go.

Wiki says he was born in April 1943.

Putting Evans in the same bracket as Horner is insane. He was 33 not 40 when he won his first GC, and he was probably robbed of a stack of previous wins by dopers.

On the same page in the text it says 1942, with two citations which I accept. 1943 looks like an error. In addition there is a citation in Le Figaro here:

satoshi, wiggins wouldn't have won this tour, too many mountains, and too many chances for Nibali to attack him, with the weakness of the tour team...
2012 won't come again...Sky need to make a decision about what they want to be, a global team who cherry pick riders from wherever to go win GC's or a team with a british core dedicated to making homegrown GC riders who can win grand tours for the glorification of british cycling..
Don't think Brailsford will make the same mistakes this year, next year. Fuck the ego's, take the riders who will put in a performance, and make sure there's a plan b, c, and d...

Portuguese Wiki has 1942. And thank you, thank , thank you, it is a debt I shall never forget nor ever hope to repay.
It's interesting that even at this level those that look good TTing are (often) good.
Van Garderen when passing Mollema – one is rock steady and arrow straight, the other looks almost as if he's swimming.
