He broke his femur in the same crash that brought down Van Garderen last Friday.
Ouch. I reckon he would have been in the mix today otherwise, not quite at Quintana levels of consistency but there were some incredible rides from him in the Dauphine...

When I google news Carlos Betancur 'Carlos Betancur fat' pops up as an auto complete.

Strange.

Betancur is awol, and has, I think, been sacked by AG2R. I'd be surprised if we see him at the sharp end of a race again.
L'Equipe reporting that he'd risen from his sick bed to hand out winners trophies somewhere in Columbia and told local TV that he wants to ride the Vuelta but won't be an AG2R rider next year, with AG2R responding that given he'd not been in touch with them for months it would have been nice if he'd told them himself....
Quinana-envy or just plain old bio-passport violations in the pipeline?

I read/heard somewhere that he went home to Columbia, and became so ill he couldn't answer the phone to tell Ag2R that he couldn't come back....
... Yeah.... Right. Did the dog eat your passport too?

Nice contrast in riding style between Kadri and Bakelants...

A col with 'quit' in the name.
Unfair!
Only a problem if you're called 'Pala', though. -

I'd be interested in plaquesuperieures take on the correlation between climbing ability and length/extravagance of religious icon necklace

Think Kwiatkowski might have burned too many matches earlier on in this Tour.

I just undertook the 1 mile journey to Waitrose and back for some Magnums and cider and my garmin said it was 37.2 degrees in Balham. I didn't think I was going to be able to make it up the stairs to my flat with my haul afterwards. How the fuck do these people do what they're doing out there?! It's insane. The tarmac must be melting off the roads on the mountain. Hard, hard bastards.

They get their cider from the team car and are told their choc ice is waiting at the summit?

They figure higher gears.
And holy shit that was a bit of special cornering.
^ I just read that. Bizarre.
Almost as strange as winning Paris-Nice when he was carrying a few extra tyres around the midriff.
