Arrival at buses

that looks fucking grim, am assuming with windchill the effective temperature is about -10 at least. i doubt many of them get big thick winter gloves as part of their team kit. if i got onto a bus after that, i would be reluctant to get back on the bike for more

Weather is fine, riders and race directors alike just need to harden the fuck up.
Something tells me your tone would be a little bit different if it was you out there.

^^ Was about to say the same thing: I wasn't aware Lynchman was well known for riding 190 miles* in conditions where your head ends up covered in frozen ice.
Le Blaireau's hands were permanently damaged riding in similar conditions, it's not really worth it.

So Heinrich, have you got your gloves on now?
-
• #958
My hands are permanently damaged because of frostbite... It's just one of them things.
-
• #959
Not really when you're a race director, directly responsible for the wellbeing of 200 cyclists...
-
• #960
Hinault had third or fourth degree frostbite, which caused permanent damage to his nerves. I doubt very much yours is on the same scale.
It is not 'one of those things' and you might want to read up about the 1980 Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

I wonder if riders will be stuffing hot water bottles down their backs, in a reversal from the usual summer ice packs

It's either feasible to race, in which case they need to do just that, or it isn't, in which case they should cancel. Simples.

Yup.

^^^why, the race is 190 miles long, if the weather conditions are only that bad in one area then shouldn't they try and do their best to keep the race running in some way? Lets not forget this isn't a minor race, lots of money in terms of sponsorships riding on this, that would probably be significantly reduced next year if they called it off.
No different to a safety car in F1.

they're off again! An awesome array of flouro kit... Bardiani and Vini are almost indistinguishable :-)

This. There will be some who want to quit and they are welcome to, and there are the hard men who will relish this. Either way I'll judge them.

Skiing on tv. Or is it cycling. Not sure ...
Also, according to Eurosport live text they've put the restart back to 2pm?
So, the initial scenario was that the race would restart with 132km remaining at Arenzano. But now, with La Manie climb removed, the race will restart at the 213km-mark at Finale Ligure at 2pm UK time (3pm local time) - that's to say, with just 85km remaining. The six leaders - Belkov, Bak, Montaguti, Rosa, Fortin and Lastras - will still have 7'10" over the peloton, which changes the outlook immensely. There is a good chance that the break could now stay out all the way.

eurosport have started their coverage and showed some shots of the start of the race but have gone to adds and random bits and bobs until the race resumes at 14.00 uk time (if it resumes :()
