  • Where did he say that?

Time to learn the Orica GreenEdge anthem I suppose.

He's been widely quoted as saying they didn't join Sky because he didn't want to slave away in the front of the bunch.

There's two things here; 1) I understand Sky were only interested in signing Simon Yates so the quote is likely taken out of context and 2) he'll be starting from the bottom rung again so working hard and being appreciated for doing so by your tema mates and management should be your primary goal. Then, when you get the chance to ride for yourself, your team mates are likely to help you by giving up their personal ambitions and working hard for you.

  • ^^^ what Andyp said.

  • Perhaps they were concerned that if they didn't do well enough in their first season Brailsford would leak a drug story and cancel their contract.....

  • Sky are overstocked with talent. Seems only fair to let an Aussie team have some good riders as well.

  • ooohhhh

  • Sky are overstocked with Aussie talent. Seems only fair to let some Brits have a look into the scary world of the World Tour.

    We're pretty charitable like that.

  • Just desperate.

  • Not content with being waiting staff in many of our fine hostelries, it is admirable that Aussies have taken it upon themselves to carry the drinks in our cycling teams as well.

  • That's so heartbreaking. My condolences to Amy's family and friends.

  • Awful :(

  • Such a shame

Feel slightly bashful posting this now:

Yeah, OGE really struggled this year didn't they.

In the 90s maybe. Eastern Europe dealt a punishing blow to that industry. Now we have to be content with just drinking your beer whilst running your (remaining) businesses.

I'll agree that Porte did a great job helping Kenya's first Tour winner this year.

  • Yeah, OGE really struggled this year didn't they.

    With somethings, yes.

    Fairly brutal appraisal of Wiggo

  • ooof. Surprised he was that candid about it.

  • Yeah. I struggle to see Wiggins riding for Sky again.

  • Yeah I don't really see how they can carry him for another season.

It's pretty sad really. WTF is going on with him? It just seems like he doesn't give a toss about it all anymore - just wants a quiet life with his family.

Well, what's wrong with that? He's human, not some robot that's malfunctioning, or a horse that needs to be euthanised :/

  • Did I say there was anything wrong with that?

  • No, I suppose not. I just intepreted it as a judgement on the guy as if he should be putting Team Sky above his family and his mental well-being. It's a popular line of thinking, unhappily. Sorry for subscribing you to it in error :-)
