  • Rumors and speculation aside, here's the official line: http://www.hernehillvelodrome.com/about/whats_new/index.html

"Cyclo-cross is becoming an increasingly important race discipline at Herne Hill"

  • Thanks for posting that, Jason. Great news.

  • I'm still planning on exploring using Crystal Palace Park again though, but not for a few months.

  • What you want is a cross race that starts at CP and finishes at HH.

Or even starts at CP goes to HH and comes back to finish at CP. Proper CX like the old days where you actually rode on the road for a bit.

    Like the skol advert.

  • CX at crystal palace would be very cool! A few of us have ridden laps which would make a great course.

  • I just obtained a copy of the programme from the 1973 Cyclocross Worlds to work out what course they used in the park.

  • Maybe if sportives and cyclocross become Olympic sports, then these "legacy" funds might do something for track racing?

    #trollololololololololol

  • D-

RPM's trolling abilities seems to have atrophied through lack of use.

  • If it makes someone feel uncomfortable for a few seconds then it's done the job.

Like looking at a jpg of a poo or something.

  • Was down yesterday for the spring cleanup and works are well underway.

  • Oh no! The Blandford Fly's habitat has been destroyed. Did anyone carry out an environmental assessment?

  • Don't worry, they'll be back in force. There's still plenty of grass left for them to hide in.

However, the Great Crested Newts, Natterjack Toads, Pipistrel Bats and Lesser Whirlpool Rams-horn Snails are all toast.

And good riddance to the bloody pests.

  • Sorry Rob not all pests have gone, the 'crossers will still be around.

  • I assume the inner track won't be banked?

  • Correct

  • Dragging this back off-topic, here's the 1970 nationals at Crystal Palace.

Could you scan that programme Andy? I'm sure most of the course wouldn't be possible these days but it would be interesting.

  • Will try and do it later this week.

  • Proper cross, that.

Not these silly XC mtb courses with the occasional 6" hurdle. If you can ride the whole course without getting off, it's not because you've got skills, it's because CX ain't what it used to be.

Flights of steps, high fences, rivers. Allow it.

I've attached a scan of the course.

  • How about something like this,. only on cross-bikes.

    http://www.toughguy.co.uk/

  • Anything that calls itself 'tough guy' = not for actually tough people

  • In that case, IN

  • Anything that calls itself 'tough guy' = not for actually tough people

I don't know... that looks pretty tough (and stupid) to me

  • Looks like a normal Saturday when I was a kid.. only toughguy has less fire and more people.

  • I've attached a scan of the course.

Cheers. Even after overlaying it onto a current map of the park I can't really work out where the course would have gone!
