RIP: Steff

  • I'm so sad to have just heard this news.
Steff was one of the nicest, most genuine guys I ever met during my time in London.
He was always genuinely interested to hear what I'd been up to and how I was doing.
Even as someone who has been battling against himself for most of my life, I never saw any signs that Steff was struggling too.
    I'm so deeply saddened.

I was about to contact him about a bag he has on order which I'll be starting soon.
Having heard the news, I think what I'd like to do is make the bag anyway, and raffle it off...with the proceeds going to Steff's family,or a charity of their choosing.

If there is a memorial ride then possibly the tickets could be distributed there, if that's not seen as being in poor taste?

Ride in peace Steff....you were one of the good ones. :[

  • I can't speak for anyone else but something to remember him by would be nice.

  • I've been thinking about Steff since I heard about this on Thursday. I'm very sad, although I didn't know him very well. We talked lots at Easts, but when that moved I saw less of him. This year I again met him more often, including at the London Open, where my abiding image of him is him standing in the heavy rain in his rain cape, without a hood or other head covering. I'll miss him.

This one will only be of interest to German speakers/listeners.

    Steff was a lovely man.

A bike stand perhaps? Can you buy something like that for outside a pub or something? I know when a friend of mine died we chipped in for a bench - might sound a tad lame, but I still ride out there sometimes and have a bit of a sit and think about him.

I'd pop a tenner in the hat.

  • Steff's funeral will be held on Wednesday, 19 December at 12:00

  • Thanks.

That's a wicked idea, thoughtful and practical

  • Only just seen this.

RIP Steff your generosity and giving nature will be missed.

Unfortunately I won't be able to attend as it's my son's birthday on that day so i'll be visiting him...but I'd like to give my best wishes to his family and friends.

  • jonny told me the news last week. very sad. i bumped into him a few months ago which makes this news even more unsettling.
i hope you've found peace Steff.

  • Won't be able to make the funeral as i'll be in Ireland for xmas. Glasses will be raised.

That sounds good, was thinking a ride or a drinks in his honour.

Should we have some sort of remembrance book, for his family and siblings to show how he was respected and held in high esteem.

Shall we meet up earlier and ride in together?

  • That's not a bad idea. Meet at Lmnh maybe. Although I don't think this will be a "cycling" funeral, so I shall be suiting up and wearing a black tie.

The Facebook page is full of wonderful tributes as is this thread.

  • I'd be interested in what is considered to be a suitable clothing choice for this.

  • If I'm not working I will be there.

  • Tragic news, RIP Steff.

  • I'd be interested in what is considered to be a suitable clothing choice for this.

I don't own a suit or any 'formal' clothes. I'll just wear the tidiest jeans and jacket I have. I know Steff wouldn't have cared and I just hope his family feel the same way, if they even notice. A few people in cycling shoes probably wouldn't come as a surprise to them.

  • I only met him a couple of times but he had such a warmth and generosity of spirit about him. Such sad news. I sincerely hope he is at peace now.

    .

  • Fair point, I'll wear something subdued anyway.

  • Shouldn't joke on here, but monochrome Rapha seems to be equivalent of smart casual.

  • RIP Steffan

  • Just reposting from the FB page for those of you not on it.

"The family don't particularly want flowers, but that's up to those who are coming to the funeral. We intend instead to make a donation to the cycle couriers' emergency fund"

  • Thanks. Is there any way of seeing that page if you do not have a Facebook account?

  • Not sure, this is the link to it
