  • Beautiful! Love the yellow\brown combination!

  • Nice!, Rode my Genesis from Vancouver to San Diego last year with a Brooks, great ride !

  • I wouldn't have to even tie the cable down to the mudguard as it seemed to run along it nicely anyway.
although, alas, my cable is a couple of cm too short...

Reckon it worth waiting till you get a new hammered mudguard to do that, as the alu/steel mudguard's lips have enough room to put the cable in without glue.

Although have tilted it a tad forward again as i reckon i had it a little too far back before.

Your new seatpost have slightly more setback than the old Campag one, which is probably why.

  • Thank you! Are you looking to build something similar?

I am eventually. I'm trying to build up my ride distances first (on my SS Pompino) before I build the bike so I know exactly what I want but I reckon it'll be something like yours or this:

Can't decide whether to go with a new or "vintage" frameset.

I currently have the groupset and wheels although they're more toury than audaxey.

    We shall see.

  • I wish Carradice still looked like that^

I have a similar one and it's lovely.

  • Me too, mind you the Super C Audax saddlebag look the boss and slightly more useful with clip than strap.

  • Mine doesn't look dissimilar, bar the orange triangle

  • Well I've done a couple of rides and the first audax on this yesterday, again I'll probably only change the mudguards at some point in the future.

here's a few pics of it out and about.

(I need a small saddlepack, my little one is broken so had to use this carradice overkill one)

out on the willy warmer yesterday

  • Excellent, how nice to see a bike in current projects getting ridden properly ;)

Turned out nice for the WW rerun. Did you have to do much riding in the dark? How is that headlamp working out?

You do need to sort that wire out though! Couldn't you just run it down the inside of the fork leg?

  • ^Thanks :)

And yeah the weather was fantastic after the snow/ice last weekend. I spent the last 50km with my lights on, front and back. The dynamo light does the job very well, it doesn't illuminate the road like a car would, but certainly as much as I need on an audax. Big improvement on my crappy cree light.

Yeah functionally the wire is fine, but it still stands out :/
and if I ran it inside the fork leg you'd still see the cable ties (well unless they were yellow!)
I think i'll wait it out 'till I get the new mudguards, and if my cable is too short then, look into lengthening it/getting a new one. With a longer cable I could route it via the mudguard which should be more subtle

  • Saw these in Tokyo Fixed and couldn't resist...
They're 700c x 43mm, the only one they had, not too small for 28c like the 36mm ones, and not too big.

The 700c x 40mm would be perfect, but I don't think I'll ever see them anywhere near the UK, and these are close enough ;)

Will be able to make use of my seat stay bridge/fork crown mudguard mounts as well
    like this

  • Nice. Have you fitted those zip ties yet? :)

  • Sorry for the late reply pete, was going to finish tinkering first.

Your comment prompted me to try the cable ties out again, as on first look they didn't match my frame colour, but I stuck them on and it looks a hell of a lot better.
    Cheers fella.

Managed to get the guards on without a power drill, real bodge job with a screw driver, but the holes are nice and clean and in the right places :)

Now my knees feeling a bit better I can get out on it again, and will be tentatively attempting the dean with it on saturday.

  • I've seen a couple of these frames come up on eBay but never in my size! Price varies between £200 and £400 quid as well. I really like this bike.

  • Looking amazingly better than originally.

That photo actually show just how steep that seat tube is, damn! who the hell had that weird body proportion?! I'm glad to hear that the seat post work out to your favour in the end better than my g/f's whom given up hope and sold her frame.

  • Thanks fellas!

Yeah at £400 this frame was pretty pricey! But all the attention to detail that's gone into it, and the fact it now fits well helps justify it for me :)
Still doesn't stop me lusting after some custom 953 builds though...

And yeah thanks again for the seat post ed, in future I'll be really paying close attention to a frames geo rather than just top tube/seat tube.
Really not sure why it was built witha 76 deg seat tube but hey! May have to send teh legendary slimboyfat a PM and find out more about it...

  • Yeah at £400 this frame was pretty pricey!

Not pricey, worth every penny (and more).

  • Thanks Oliver! :)

  • Looks good, but a few a 1" spacers to cover up that quill adaptor wouldn't go amiss

  • You know, I don't really mind how the adapter looks :) although some spacers would be useful for keeping my stem height where I want it.

The transition might be nicer with an adapter like this

    http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d7/k4drd/Bicycles/Waterford%20B07014/cimg5213sm.jpg

but the spacers don't look that great to me here, I couldn't find any other examples of spacers over a adapter

^That bike is pretty cool though

  • Or you know the other solution - Soma Fab HY1 bar + quill.

  • I like how my bar/stem set-up looks! And it is a hell of a lot more practical than just quill

    There is no solution needed!

  • +1. I didn't think those zip ties would match exactly by the way (shades of yellow never do, in my exprience!) but it definitely looks much better.

  • Yeah thanks again for them, they've made it look a hell of a lot cleaner.
And the difference while noticable up close is a world of difference to a black cable tie

  • Saw this in the flesh(steel) yesterday. What a fantastic build. A really beautiful bike.
