  • Just catching up with this. Are taxis allowed in bus lanes when off duty?

  • Good question. Dont think its something that could ever be enforced though

  • Just catching up with this. Are taxis allowed in bus lanes when off duty?

    As far as I understand, licenced taxis can use the bus lanes at any time. Most of the stretches of road with bus lanes I use on a regular basis are out of the centre of London and it totally pisses me off being undertaken by empty taxis that are clearly on their way to or from home and not actively plying for fares. Based on this, should bus drivers be able to use bus lanes in their private car if they are heading to / from work?
    Obvioulsy as marcopolo suggests, policing a no taxi in bus lane unless it is actually working would be currently near impossible.

    fixed.

  • fixed.

    No - broke

  • Did anyone notice a change on the roads today? I felt some tension from car drivers but also had a guy attempt a dick move but proceeded to slam his brakes on and accept it was a dick move and waited behind me until it was safe to pass, could be a coincidence but I definitely noticed different attitudes.

    If anything it was worse than usual. I made a distinct effort today to thank drivers for letting me into junctions, acted more cautious than usual, etc.
    Then promptly got undertaken by 3 motorbikes and had two cars nudge out of junctions not seeing me.

    I think I spoke to soon, on my way home I had some twatty lady in her 4x4 more interested in her phone call than where she was going, had to avoid her twice.

    I think it's coincidence, some days it's bad, some it's good, it's just happen to be bad because the tv show (I'm never referring it as a documentary) was on your mind.

  • yeah I think we have all been more cautious today as a result.

    Although earlier riding over waterloo bridge, a guy on a scooter overtook me between the cycle lane and a double decker. Felt the clothing brush. Proper idiot. Then he did it to the guy riding in front of me. Guess he didnt watch the bbc last night hey.

  • fixed.

    got a link to prove this ed?

    When it's bad, you always get three.

  • I'm glad they are covering HGV's.

    Would be much better if they went into the specific issue of road positioning. Both with the undertaking of large vehicles at corners thing and more on the "primary position" thing too as so many of the angry type of drivers seem to thing that they have the right to push cyclists into the gutter/onto the pavement.

  • It would be fantastic if they address the serious issue of cycle lane like this;

    Or the blindspot of the HGV is coincidentally exactly the same shape as an ASL;

    Why is everyone avoiding this?

  • hmmmm something doesnt look right in that last one

  • The driver of the white van is clearly a stooge of the cameraman

  • Or this poster which is extremely contradicted when TfL encourage people to undertake;

    Actual reality;

    Where do you suggest they paint the cycle lane instead Ed?

    cant be real. White van NOT in the asl!

  • Where do you suggest they paint the cycle lane instead Ed?

    Why does it have to be a cycle lane? why not something like a sharrow instead?

  • Give it 10 years. Petrol will be so expensive you'll have white trike man. Screaming around London shouting caaannnt and jumping off his trike to remonstrate with mrs 4x4

  • I am not sure if I should continue to watch this. It'll either fuck me off or just make me depressed. Bad things either way....

    Edit: 'Why did you RLJ?'

    'It was green for pedestrians.'

    HA!

    Edit x2 I am sure it's been said but the clip in which the HGV cuts off the Glaswegian lad....I am literally gob smacked. Terrified.

  • Chisa- It's already cheaper to get a 260 litre drum of Methanol delivered which you keep in the garage and top the tank off as required.

    Higher octane (significantly higher) than pump fuel, also.

    If the price of pump fuel keeps going up I think we'll see more "alternative" fuels, and of course the government chasing after them in search of tax revenue.

  • Why does it have to be a cycle lane? why not something like a sharrow instead?

    So a little picture on the tarmac reminding drivers that there are also cyclists on the road? Almost as useless as a cycle lane.

  • It wouldn't change anything I agree, but it does raised awareness.

    It allowed the cyclists to choose their line, rather than being boxed into a tiny lane specifically painted for them.

  • might work in other countries where general attitudes towards cyclists are much better. Just another waste of paint in this one.
