I will be getting TRP Spyres post mount. I'll be running with a 160mm disc. The forks are after market and have IS tabs spaced at the usual 51mm.
Rabbit hole.

It's not too bad. You just want a 160mm front IS to PM adaptor. This TRP part: https://trpcycling.com/product/a2-160-front-140-rear-ispm-adapter/ or Shimano part number SM-MA-F160P/S

Thanks!

Sorry to ask yet another disc brake mounting question but can anyone exlpain what the trp spyre adapters are for? I assumed it was so you could run a 160mm rotor but it looks like you need one to run a 140mm rotor as well? I'm confused, I thought that flat mount was just mounted directly to your frame?

looks like you need one to run a 140mm rotor as well
That's for a front brake. Flat mount front needs an adaptor - you have it one way up for 160 mm rotors and flip it for 140 mm.
Rear does bolt directly to the frame if you're using 140 mm rotors. You need an adaptor to use 160 mm rotors at the back.

Ahh that makes sense now! Thank you. On the TRP website it seemed like they were saying you needed an adapter for both front and rear regardless of rotor size

To clarify/ confuse things further, I have flat mount spyres and paragon machine works rocker dropouts; I found the 160mm rear mounts directly without the adaptor.

A bit of progress whilst multitasking during conference calls. Thanks @fizzy.bleach for the brakes.
Edit - Yes I know it needs tan walls but it's budget!

I'll show myself out.
But I am getting the Michelin Power Cyclocross in green and tan for actually racing.

I forget how faffy they are to set up. My last set were CX50's and they were a cinch compared to these. I need a third arm.

oh god yes! they did work very well once set up though
did you find the official TRP instructions? if you follow them, I think you literally do need three hands

Green and tan is the sickest combo. Bit spendy tho!

I had so much fun riding this tonight I almost found myself musing about the purity of riding single speed. What a knob. Bike’s fun tho!

Awesome. Hopefully I can see footage of you pushing such a gear?

Quite a few people running in the range of 38-18 or 38-19 or thereabouts. Some people have used lower gears on hilly courses. Will depend on how you like to pedal, how strong you are, flatness of the course, mud, etc.
In general I reckon you're better off with the lower end for everything bar the dry flat grass crits. Even in those the dead turns, lumps etc will mean a slightly lower gear is that bit better for acceleration.
In the mud you can forget about anything other than grinding the whole way round on anything remotely not downhill...

yeah this year i've worked it out so I can change rear cogs for a low, mid and high 50s option.
last year I'd say there was only 1 race where I was undergeared at 38x18

40 x 16 to 40 x 20 but I always come last so don't listen to me.

Do you have flat mount or post mount calipers? Do you have flat mounts, post mounts or ISO mounts on the frame and forks? What size rotors do you want to use?
