the hooks generally face forwards to stop the bags swinging forwards when you stop, but check the instructions that came with your bags

  • The hooks on my Ortlieb face backwards.

  • That was all lighthearted banter upthread, BTW.

@Chalfie - I put them on that way as I had extended struts on my rack for extra heel clearance, which tipped it slightly backwards. I never had an issue with them falling forwards.

@ChainBreaker - I also used to wrap a bungee cord around the top of the rack so that it went between the handles of both panniers, for extra insurance. It was easy enough to unhook it to remove/refit the bags.

  • Ah.

  • I do the same with my clip cord but with the rough riding, it loosens quite a bit. Also the swing of the bags make the bike feel unstable.

BTW - BMMF, do you ride down Gresham street in the mornings?

  • What rough riding are you doing?

  • the hump kind

  • No I don't. I'm sure there are loads of black S-type Bromptons around those parts.

  • heres my clip mods to my aldi (ortlieb copy) panniers. clips broke and were replaced with a pair of carradice locking clips. simply secured by 2 nuts/bolts each and hot glued to prevent it working loose. still going strong 3 years on.
