I logged in and "Sparky" was there waiting for me. I've defaced the forum with a first post as well. Looks nice, but hard to see how it all works until there's more content in there.

Ah, I'm already learning: see now that what I thought were "threads" are "sections", so to speak.

I logged in with the investment email, but get a generic 'something went wrong' error when I try to change my profile name to mashton. This is on lfgss .microcosm.sm.
Current username is 'foo'.
I can't check that from here as it's locked down... but you used microcosm@ as your email? That was the one you told us to put down for the username reservation.
If you didn't, try using that one with Persona and it should work.

Hi VB, logged in using my email address which I logged with you as an investor, but it just logs me as a generic 'user'. Am I doing something wrong?
-
• #1581
mashton: you used mail@ rather than microcosm@
finger_jockey: you used @yahoo rather than @gmail
The reserved usernames only work for the email address that you let me know about.
I sent an email asking what email to use in early January, and most people said "this one" and a few people said "this specific" one. Whatever you told me (and for 90% that was just your investor email)... that's the one you need to use.

Ah yes, too many email addresses for my own good. Thank you sir.

Saw this a few weeks ago but forgot to post. Jeff Atwood's Discourse project. Changing the face of forums.

Logged in with my investment email, but it doesn't seem to get my user name (logs me in as user5881). Not sure if i replied to your email in jan - thought you would just use investment email and current lfgss username unless instructed otherwise?

• #1587
Edit: I'm an idiot, just seen the username reservation was for 'proper' investors only.
Also, Gravatar: bleurgh. I don't want to set a LFGSS-specific avatar for everything related to that email address and I don't necessairly want the avatar I do have set for that email address to be shown in a LFGSS context. Will there be a Microcosm avatar system?

My pikachu now shows in peoples emails

You can probably get a cream for that...

I wasn't making assumptions about the email you would use, so it wasn't done automatically.
I've set your investor email to be related to dt, so it will work once deployed (in a few moments).

Donors also are getting their username reserved... but one thing at a time and investors were always going to be done first.
And yes, eventually there will be a Microcosm avatar system. Mostly because Gravatar is a poor user experience (especially if you don't have one already) and you may well interact with more than 1 community using the same Persona login email, and wish to have different avatars per community.

also it does not appear that Gravatar lets you use animated images
-
• #1592
You need a new avatar DJ.
Perhaps reflecting your current occupation? -

That sounds like you're arguing in favour of keeping Gravatar, clearly non-animated is a big plus.

nope, i want a jiggy avatar

That sounds a bit scobley.

Like Tumblr, for forums.

Obligatory, are we rich yet?
That took them 6 years, and we are 6 months in. I'm pleased with where we are, but...
is there anything to do yet? transferal?
Actually there is, I need more feedback.
Most of the bugs have been worked through and the site is usable. The question now is: What is wrong with it? What is it missing? What is it not doing well?
We need negative feedback, to focus on where we can improve and where we're falling short so that we can prioritise our work and resolve the big things first and apply polish where it need be applied.
Things I think we need very soon:
1) Email notifications (thread you've posted in has been replied to, someone quoted you, etc)
2) Polls (we have the foundation but they're not finished).
3) Usergroups and permissions (currently everyone can do pretty much everything, but forums here have moderators and we need some way of distributing the moderation effort across Microcosms)
And there's still a long list of other things we need (including private messaging, better profiles, being able to reply to things by email, etc), but those are what I believe the priorities are.
The best way to help me sort the priorities is to find out why it's not being used today (beyond it being a test site), to find out which bits you don't like, or miss, and for me to basically work through those things.
So I'd really like it if people were quite vocal (to us) about the things they didn't like, and the things they feel are glaring omissions.
And you can get a feel for it here:
https://lfgss.microcosm.app/And you can tell us your views here:
https://lfgss.microcosm.app/microcosms/62/Though if you're technical and you've found a code bug in the front-end, then feel free to use Github Issues which we will always observe and work through:

VB, got to say email notification is probably the most maddening thing about any social media, getting sent an email everytime someone does something in which you are connected just fills up my email inbox and I usually turn it off as soon as I can.
Might sound daft but could there not be a page like User Control panel or a newsfeedesque thing that holds all your interactions? So you could just check there if someone has commented, added their name to your guest list? You check there and all is in front of you, rather than the slow slide of email notification..
