  • The locals tarring their pitchforks, and feathering their bunting. If I am not at work I,ll join y'all for ale and pie.

  • For those not taking the train from Paddington to Iver, the roll through to West London will be as follows

    • 8:00 Depart Tooting Broadway.

    • 8:15 Wandsworth end of Garratt Lane (by Spread Eagle).

    • 8:25 Putney Bridge, south side, on bridge.

    • 8:40 Hammersmith roundabout, top of Fulham Palace Road.

    • 9:05 Ealing Broadway, outside main station entrance.

    • 9:35 Iver station.

This will be a gentle roll through to the start so if you are late, up the tempo and head for next venue on the list.

PM me which venue you will be at, your mobile, real and forum name, and we will catch you on the way through.

There will be no waiting, so arrive 10 minutes before stated departure time.

Oh, and stay off the gargle the night before. There will be enough ale and frivolities in Oxford, to satisfy the most hardened forum party animal.

  • For I rise to this occasion good souls as I am indeed a moist hardened forum animal!

  • Oh balls, I might have to work... I will try to get out of it.

Tell them where to put their tinsel and gong.

My Katy feeds soup to the homeless in Oxford, so this is not a jolly with mates, but a support visit to see the good work done by the VDP and other charitable organisations, in supporting the disenfranchised.

  • I'm not sure "I'm off to see what our competitors are up to" will cut it, but we'll see...

    If anyone can, Hatty can...

  • so gutted that I'll be away :(

  • I'd love to do this one, absolutely love riding in the Chilterns, but alas work has me that day....

  • Bernie, any idea what time you'll be passing through Christmas Common so we can arrange to meet up?

  • I'll see you fine people south side of Putney Bridge!

    buys wig off ebay

  • BOSH

lets get this Monday morning off to a good start with another addition to the ride.

unfortunately lycra is the clothing of choice rather than period costume!

  • oh and i'll be getting the train from paddington

  • Bernie, any idea what time you'll be passing through Christmas Common so we can arrange to meet up?

J, can you think of a refuelling stop a couple of miles before Christmas common, so you can stay warm, and we can grab a quick bite, before the drive up the hill?

I will then work out an ETA. If it is anything like today, I don't want people hanging around on the side of the road, waiting for the Oxford train to come steaming through.

  • Man I can't wait for this ride. Looking forward to it all week. I'm even going the long way to and from work so I don't look really really silly on the hills.

That is what I call dedication!

Are you joining the Saaf London feeder squadron, or the Paddington bear patrol?

  • any chance of a heads up on likely gradients & distance.
guessing 50/65/75 ish miles of mostly rolling hills with a longer one or two?

need to select nth bike and ensure tyre worthiness etc

  • Here's the garmin deets from when I last rode the route

    [ame]http://connect.garmin.com/activity/185915688[/ame]

It's flat until past Iver, a nice hilly workout for 20 or so miles and then a pleasant flattish roll in to Oxford.

  • Bernie, we plan to ride out from Wallingford (makes it sound like the horsemen of the apocalypes...) and will be waiting in the Fox and Hounds in Christams Common (link below). If you want to stop before riding up into the hills that's fine or you could meet us in the F&H - no problem either way as long as we can have an approximate time.

Three of us so far: Booga, jochta and me - hopefully at least one more will be joining us before the day (then we can pretend to be war, death, famine, pestilence!). Did you know that "Good Omens" by Gaiman and Pratchet was set in this part of the Chilterns - there is a lot of "riding out" in that book too.

  • Damn, can't make this, but did this fixed last year and have to say some of the descents are truly exhilarating. Have fun!
