Thompson use a composite of aluminium 45% steel 35% and zinc 20%. There is less than half aluminium but as it the largest percentage they just call it aluminium
words fail me...

Right everyone stop fighting, you're ruining the sale. Hovis you're obviously a made up account, who's called hovis really??

The 7000 series* formula is Coca-Cola's top-secret recipe for aluminium. The formula is considered one of the most closely-held trade secrets in modern business. Only a few top Coca-Cola employees are reported to know or have access to the formula.
Pig Iron is the "secret ingredient" in 7000 series aluminium. The ingredient has remained a secret since its invention in 1886. The description of the ingredient is kept in a security vault in a bank in Atlanta, Georgia. Only two people in the company know the formula at any one time.
Published accounts say it contains or once contained sugar, caramel, caffeine, phosphoric acid, coca leaf and kola nut extract, lime extract, flavoring mixture, vanilla and glycerin. Alleged aluminium *recipes vary greatly, and Coca-Cola reluctantly admits the formula has changed over the decades.
Officially, from the label itself, as all products are required to list them: carbonated water, cane sugar, color (caramel 150d), food acid (phosphoric acid 338), "flavor", caffeine. Some minor changes, such as the sugar used and the amount of each ingredient, will occur between regions.

dibs the little toggle off the bag if you decide to split.

if it's 7000 series it's either 7005 or 7075
The alloy composition of 7005 is:
Aluminium 91.0% - 94.7%
Chromium 0.06% - 0.20%
Copper <=0.10 %
Iron <=0.40 %
Magnesium 1.0% - 1.80%
Manganese 0.20% - 0.70%
Silicon <=0.35%
Titanium 0.010% - 0.060%
Zinc 4.0% - 5.0%
Zirconium 0.080% - 0.20%
Other, total <= 0.15%7075 aluminum alloy's composition roughly includes 5.6–6.1% zinc, 2.1–2.5% magnesium, 1.2–1.6% copper, and less than half a percent of silicon, iron, manganese, titanium, chromium, and other metals.

Hi John.
I'm afraid you are incorrect, although not advertised Thompson use a steel aluminium and zinc composite for their cheapest model. I know this as I have worked for Thompson for a period of timeif youve worked for them so long, why do you repeatedly spell THOMSON wrong?

Steel aluminium alloy don't exist
Who said anything about 'alloy'? To be precise, ljsfg said 'composite', although he was ambiguous about whether it was a steel+aluminium composite or steel+something else.
In the case of steel/aluminium composite, it seems perfectly plausible to explosively weld a very thin walled steel tube jacket over an aluminium core. This would exploit the stiffness of steel on the outside while the low density aluminium would provide support against buckling, which is a problem when the ratio of diameter to wall thickness exceeds about 60. By exploiting the different material properties where each is best suited, rather than compromising the design to get around the limitations of a homogeneous material, the steel/aluminium composite seat post ends up better than the standard Thomson part, and should therefore cost more in a rational market. The explosion welding patent was granted to Dupont; if the seat post were made by Thompson that would have to have been Dupond, which is clearly nonsensical
tl;dr: £45 for a Thomson is a steel

Dupond! Genius. Well played sir.
