  • ok thanks @ BONOR think I finally understood; many choose smaller sized Mashecs and they're the ones with lesser sloping TTs that I keep seeing? in other words my M sized should be alright slopewise.

The PX forks do look rad, but Alpina is on the way :) .. Btw, Swedish forum posted a tip on Omniums (179 euros) at Bike24.

look at small cannondale track, it slops the other way

  • GT got it right though

  • huh!

  • changed my set-up round a bit, rides much better like this

  • I gave my frame and fork a sandpaper job and clear coated it.
Now checking options for a partial lacquering (black with sparkles)

    What height are you?

  • The BB shell is 100mm wide and outboard bearings add a few cm on each side. If they've built it like I designed it, the cranks will fit. The q factor on fatbike cranks is huge.

Saw this on MTBR. Massively cool. But is the chainring clearance looks real close though.

    What chainline you aiming for?
Is it going to be single speed?

I think fatbike standard is 64mm. MTB standard is 50mm, add 16mm BB width, and you get the 66mm. But most fatbike cranks dont often use BB spacers, and MTBs usually have 2mm on the DS. So removing that leaves you with 64mm.

I'm running a DS spacer regardless (well BB mounted chain keeper) so will have a 66mm chainline. Although my hope is to run a single ring in the outer position of a triple crankset. So its more like 70mm at the front, and 65/66mm at the rear (I have a cassette spacer).

Cool looking frame. I hope all the numbers work out for you (kinda stressed about mine).

Probably misread something but 14mm each side, surely?

    bout 5'8. why?

    IMHO etc.

    MTB BB shell = 68mm

    Fatbike shell = 100mm

So the difference each side is 16mm.

But yes when you take into account the spacer used on the DS of the MTB it is 14mm.

  • I'm going to run 1x9 and only the outer ring, and according to my drawings, a 32t ring should clear the cs, although not by much.

At one point I asked Robert to dent the cs where the chainring is close, but it might have gotten lost in translation.

Edit- You got me worried so I emailed Robert about adding a dent there (I don't know if it's still possible, though). If he can't do it and the 32t won't fit, I'll have to get a 30t ring.

If you look at my image (from my custom build). Looking at the frame, and imagining the cranks + BB arent fitted, makes it look impossible to have the chainring clear. Yet the drawing shows it will, even in the middle position (which is what pictured). So I'm not saying it wont. I had to lengthen my chainstays though. As you can see from the pic included in this post. I'm trying to fit in a 4.8" Lou though. Plus the chainstays are pretty fecking fat on mine.

Currently have a RaceFace crankset, which has a chunky spider. I think maybe a Middleburn would give me a few more mm's.

Anyway. Hope it all fits together. Looks like it'll build into a cool fatbike.

Just wondering, is your frame S/M?

  • S, its the smallest frame ive ever had but im finding it a good size

  • huh

  • If you have to set your saddle that far forward on an already steep seat tube, it's much too long for you I'm afraid.

Best solution is to get a very short stem to compensate.

Oh and welcome to the T-Rex Brotherhood.

  • Yea i've always felt very stretched-out on most bicycles.

i can have the saddle further back but it's definetly comfier pushed right forward.

Is there a t-rex ride ever?

  • If there's a high number of people with that disability, possibly.

You shouldn't feel stretched out on a bicycle, that indicated they're too big for you, it should feel normal, without feeling like it's hard to look up, pressure on hand etc.

  • use a shorter stem (like the antstem) ?

  • Best solution is to get a very short stem to compensate.

    ^

  • Off the top of my head the one on it is 90mm so would a 70mm do it?

EDIT: clearly you can't actually give me an answer, i'll go borrow one and see how it feels

  • Is there a name for the anti-t-rex, long TT and stem but correctly low saddle height?

  • [strike]Ostrich?[/strike]

Ah, no, that'd be the same.

    < muppet!

    Orangutang?

  • Try it and see how it feel, putting saddle forward mean you're putting your weight on the handlebar despite feeling like a better fit

  • Dammit.
