I'm kinda undecided on this.
on the other hand andrew makes them in a small shop and copying might be seen as copyright violation and one might consider copying a frame made by a bigger company more ok than of a smaller one.
but then again when people start copying what you've created that might be the most significant sign telling you that you've made something good.
anyways, I don't think that people who wanted a LOW// would go for a mielec copy instead since they wan't a LOW// just because of that it's a LOW//. So andrew won't be loosing money on these copies since the money directed to those by consumers would never be spent on his creations.
my 2cents
It would never be a copyright violation. What it could be is a design violation, trademark violation or a patent violation.
But since Mielec don´t actually manufacture frames with LOW// decals on, they aren´t copying anything. The only thing they copy is the geometry, and since the geometry isn´t uniq, it´s not a violation.
The fact that the costumer orders a specific geometry similar to LOW´s geometry and puts LOW decals on, isn´t a violation either, since the costumer doesn´t have a commercial use/purpose.
my 2 cents

I think it'd be weird if the owner was genuinely trying to pass off the Mielec as a low but he's said that the decals are made of tape and temporary. I think people are over reacting.

I find it kinda amusing that all this talk is focusing on LOW being copied, when they themselves are copies of the old CAD Track? I think its a bit sad sticking LOW decals on another frame, but that is really up to the user
I think you are coming from space

Companies like LOW and Cinelli spend money on developing and branding, so they need the higher price - but that doesnt mean their bikes are better. Its 200 euro of frames and 400 euro of branding prestige and paintjob. But the quality is all in the geo, the strength of the velds and stiffness of the material, right?
Mielec weights something like 1,8-1,9kg while a low weights 1,4.
That is like comparing basic chromo to 953.
-
• #2461
but seriously, how much of a difference does 0.5 kg make?
-
• #2462
On a steel frame thst is the reason to get high quality frame but on alu that does not matter?
-
• #2463
a low weights 1,4.
It´s not that I don´t believe you, but where did you get that information. Have tried to find that for some time....
Their HP says 1,36 kg for a size 54 frame. But how mucht is that for the bigger frames?

My 2012 55 size pursuit was 1495 grams on a park tool scale at my lbs with king headset cups installed.
-
• #2465
Fair enough. I guess a size 57 is around 1600 to 1650 then.
My Mielec (LOW geometry) size 57 is 1904 grams without headset...

Ive asked Robert on Mielec how much the M sized Mash frame weights and he he said 1750 g. Now if you look at sites selling the org Mash Bolt they give the weight 1500 g for the frame and 560 g for the fork. The heavier size doesnt have to mean lesser quality and the better price gives room for money you can put on lighter parts, so that in the end, you can probably have a Mielec thats lighter than the original. Personally, Id also rather have my own colour and my own decals on MY bike.

Your mielec frame with the triangular tubing?
If so, could you let me know the frame spec?
-

but mielec mentions weight of the frame not frame and fork?
Yeah, he only makes frames. I just brought up the weight of the fork on the org Mash as an comparison. The Mielec seems to weigh aprox 300 grams more than the org (frame only), depending on the size and geo. Probably a fat paint coat would add to that. Im not gonna paint mine though, I like it raw. :)

Hey you Mielec owners, most of you went with the IHS right?
I'm going to get my BB stamped 'Cinelli Prototye C1-3'
Then I'm going to sell it for £3k on Ebay!!
Now that would be bad.
I think just getting a frame builder to build something the same as another manufacturer is fine. It's not like Cinelli are losing my monies, as I would never buy one due to the cost. It's also not like people are really passing them off as genuine.
