  • You can get your old karrimor bag overhauled if you love it.

May end up costing you the same as a new bag, but at the same time if you think the bag is good then why get something different?

  • I just picked up an eastpak floyd from amazon for about 25 coins, and it's actually fucking great. Lots of nice detailing, like side pockets that can be zipped away unobtrusively, and really effective compression straps.

Thats the bag I've used for my cycle commute for the last 5 years.
Great quality - feels like it will last forever.

  • £18.05 for a pretty much brand new Hot Earth KS 60 HT

Very pleased with my new purchase
Considering I could easily have spent 120 on something half as good

can be cashed in on any forum ride up to the value of three pints or 8 tinnies

  • I just ordered the eastpak one, 25 quid seems like a good deal. My karrimor has only lasted a year before starting to split where the straps connect to the top. Quite annoying as apart from the build quality it's a very good bag

  • now where can i find some side pockets that will attach to my hot earth ?

i have one of these or something very similar by quechua. Built in rain cover and well vented back. very good value. Not especially keen on the current colour

  • great result dicki!

quoted, and printed out onto holographic non-tear non-soluble ticket ;P

  • what rides you doing then in the near future ? bridges ? guiness ride 7.1 ? ride of the falling leaves ?

  • well, i now have an excuse to get a pass-out and come down, will check diary

  • I have a Dakine Heli Pack from about 2006.
Its been through a ridiculous amount with me.
Full season as a Ski Patroller and days of hiking with skis on the back, commuting, Kenya, almost every holiday, long runs/ walks, weekend camping, carried bikes across London... Its just an unbelievably good bag...
Trouble is- I have no idea what to replace it with if it were to be lost, stolen, or really unlikely- break.

  • What i was trying to say-
    Dakine make good bags.

  • Aiguille make some great bags following that 'Hot Earth' era of designs and production techniques. All thick corduras and heavy duty zips, very different to the new ultralightweight trends. I really like their stuff, I have the Haute Route, but it's too big for my general usage now. If anyone's interested in buying it off me, send me a PM.

    2006 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

come back and let me know how it's going in 2026 !!

Why did you buy a climbers pack if you wanted side pockets?

  • removable option on the occasional occasion i need a bit of extra capacity !
can store in overhead locker when flying without pockets
add pockets for a bit more room once travelling

i also have a very nice karrimor jaguar 65 litre for those big carrying jobs or the months worth of cereal shopping

thats for trips to the moon and longer journeys

  • Some army webbing pouches?

Its lasted about 4 months before I got annoyed with it, too small for day to day stuff, the threading holding the zip has started to spread a little bit after I forced a jumper in there a few too many times. Apart from the size, its still pretty awesome, will relegate it to MTB days

Can anyone recommend something just a bit bigger?

  • Some of the Deuter cycling rucksacks are really excellent. I have one with a mesh frame which keeps it off your back. Built in helmet holder and releasable waterproof cover too.

  • Probably unrelated but I just scored an Osprey Eclipse 36+5 used once off ebay for £20, the current model is over £100.
It's halfway between a full rucksack and a climbing pack but full of insanely useful looking features without looking utter daft. My current fav bit is that the straps and camelback bladder can pop out of the back pad and turns into a wee running pack. Rad. Stitching/materials look boss. Comfort is amazing, most of their bags inc smaller daypacks come in different back sizes and seems to be infinitely adjustable.
All their smaller packs look equally decent so worth a look...
Gooutdoors always has them in stock to try out.

  • that restrap bag is really nice!

  • +1 if I didn't already have a bag for every occasion I'd be all over it.
Just discovered the back padding from my Osprey can come out to use as a sit mat/rope protector. Witchcraft I say.

  • Got one of these... Tough as nails

  • That look good, I'm still sticking to my Goruck and Cilogear bag.

Although I do need an Alpine bag and it would be nice to support a local one.

  • Not really relevant to the OP but just got an Ortlieb Messenger off Wiggle and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Absolutely cavernous, seems like it'll be waterproof as a frog sphincter, really comfortable and the typical, expected quality.

I was looking at the other messenger backpacks - BigTop, Restrap etc but couldn't justify the spend. The Ortlieb is much more utilitarian (it consists of one big BIG pocket) but at £70 I',m more than happy.
