Poor welding?

• #330
It's gotta go back in a few weeks once I've done my part. :[

I just measured the forks and it looks like they can fit right up to the biggest 4.8" Surly tyres too...so that could be fun! :]
-
• #332
The new 4.8" tyres are probably only technically useful for 1% of fat bikers. I'm willing to bet 99% of us want them though.
Brrrm.
I was also thinking about how a Big Apple 29er rear, and a black floyd front would ride in hard surface conditions. I reckon that would be a sweet trekking combo.

To be honest, my chubby wheel will have to wait a while anyway. Too much to pay for over the next few months.
I'll maybe make it a summer project. :] -
• #334
Price wise. Its definitely worth waiting around to see if On-One offer separate rims, and tyres, from their fatty.
I'm mostly waiting to see the bike 'bagged up' though.
-
• #335
I've finally just finished making all of the bags to go on the English.
It now has its own custom saddlebag/drybag harness, a drybag harness mounted on the custom front rack, a full frame bag, and front and rear top tube gastank bags.
It looks great to see the 3 main frame bags without strips of velcro all over the place, and everything is really solidly mounted.Once I have the whole bike back with me I'll probably also make a couple of bags to mount in Salsa anything cages to go on the mounts on the front of the forks...especially as Salsa are working on revised, beefed up cages at last.
I might also make a small bag to mount between the front harness and the bars. But for now I need to get it all packaged up and shipped back to Rob so that he can take it to NAHBS.
It's also entered in the Gates belt drive competition too. :] -

A sneaky peek....

tidy!
-
• #338
Hey that's not fair! Full bike photos please!
-
• #339
Well I only have the front half of the frame anyway...but as it's going to NAHBS i don't want to spoil the surprise. ;]
-
• #340
Glad to hear this is still progressing!
It's nice to know there'll be at least one decent bike at NAHBS this year ;-)
-
• #341
Feck, I'd do terrible things for a BRP fuel-tank, framebag combo.
Hope both you, and Mr English, get the recognition you deserve for such workmanship.

It'll be full of skinny tubes and fat tyres.
Which on the face of it, I love. But you dont have to work within the latest niche to show talent, and craftmanship.

• #343
Holy shit this is going to be nice Scott.
-
• #344
I was just thinking about this the other day and wondering how you were getting on. Look forward to the full shots.
Can I put in a request for some geeky up close shots showing how everything fits together - so it's not just artful NAHBS ones.

Cable routing looks like it might be a challenge.

Cable routing looks like it might be a challenge.
Shouldn't be...straight over the drybag and down to the stops. Plus it's using Nokon cables all round so it will happily bend wherever it needs to. ;]
-
• #347
That bag on the front looks awesome...
Now we see that the bike build was a cunning ploy to get BRP bags on display at NAHBS :) -
• #348
Well ya know....they've been begging me for years! ;]

Last little peek before I take it all to bits again....

I dread to think what you've spent on shipping to/from the US!
You're definitly better off with the frogs then. Its essentially the same system as the Bebops, just smaller. The bebop cleats are huge, and poke out of almost all MTB shoes.
The frog pedals are incredibly simple. No springs, latches, etc. So are probably ideal for your use. The 'standing on ice cubes' feeling is proper odd off-road. But it sounds you'll have time to get used to it.
