Funny how as a captain I've never been asked about any subs. But when I'm asked whether a team (that has 3 of their original line up) able to play want to add a fourth, (for the second time) my opinion is ignored. I cited beasts and dark and stormy as playing plenty of fixtures with just three. Why should DS be able to use another player for their last fixture...? We have only had 5 players and Jakub can't play our last fixture against green. DS already cancelled on us with less than 12 hours to joust. Where was mrak last week when DS really needed a sub?
Because it's fine under the league rules. Captains only need to ask the organiser (in this case me), and the organiser will refer it to the captains if it's deemed controversial. I've quoted the rule in my post above.
I think it's fine, with all due respect to Mrak I don't think he's a "much stronger player" than Jono or JB. Do you disagree?. But I can also understand if you feel I might be biased towards Max, so it's been passed to the Captains anyway, and they all seem to agree.
So under the rules it's fine.
If you have an issue with the rules themselves, the time to raise it would have been during the proposals phase. Not a week before the end of the league.
And for the record, you are more than welcome to get a sub for Jacob.

I'm looking forward to seeing mrak on court. But i was asked by max this afternoon less than 7 hours before joust if i thought it was cool. I said "no, i dont think it is, if you have 3 players from your squad i dont see why you should be allowed to 'add' a 4th"I also thought you had said that we needed to pick up a newby if we wanted to add to our team, but i can't be bothered to sift or read through symantics.
I cited plenty of games where teams had to play with 3. But he wasnt happy with my answer so he came here. That's fair enough i would expect him to not want to be at a dis-advantage.
Do i think it gives max an advantage to play with mrak? Yes. Do i think we have less of a chance of winning now? Yes.
If you were asked the same thing and the answer was yes to both those questions also, you too would likely say no.

But really the draft should have been the end of it as i stated with the jb / jono (now mrak) pick. The fact is that other teams have much weaker players of have fielded only 3 and Dragons have not had to adhere to the first draft. I thought we fielded bench teams for two reasons. A: to mix it up. B: to enable you to continue to play when you didnt have a full squad. That is my opinion, it has nothing to do with Max or Mrak.

I'm more than happy to have some debate on the positives and the negatives of the rules, and how the league has gone, and what lessons can be learnt for next time.
I actually wanted to have no subs at all, and I agree for the reasons you've said. But the feedback I got was people wanted subs, so I changed my proposal.
Regarding serpentine, I'm still not sure if it was right or wrong. It's clear that the captains lower down the order have done better than the earlier picks. But is that because of the draft order, or because the captains were sorted by previous standings (and therefore to some extent ability), and therefore difference in ability of captains was more important than the later rounds of picks. Would Ryan, Spoons and Badger still be top even if the order of picks was different? It's impossible to say, but I think it's worth considering.
Munich did a draft Bench tournament, with traditional draft order, and despite Max Power and Eddy being the last picks in every round, they still did better in most games than the other captains.
Either way, I think there were a lot of positives, and some negatives from this league season. I wouldn't do it the same way if I was doing it again next year. But either way, I intend on taking a back seat next time, and letting someone else decide what they think is best. If I do make a proposal, it will be something completely different again (everyone is doing winter bench leagues these days, got to keep it fresh, I've got some ideas).
