Thanks for the email bud.....something for me to work on!
Mine were rattling like a skeleton in a tin can having a wank, so I wrapped them in some leather from a welders apron....they look like this now...
Shit?
I do believe Samwise Gamgee had water bottles very similar to this.

I got a couple of these, they're quite big and dont fit regular size bottle holders but if you tweak some of the older type cages you get a "sort of" fit.
My intention was to make my own bottle holder but havent gotten around to it yet.. -

Hi - I could well be interested in a single setup (or double depending on price) for my 1970s Holdsworth before the Pendle Vintage Velo Ride in March.

Good work with that spot, Rik.....could you find out who they got them from?
I've not done anything about trying to get my mate to knock some cages up.....it shouldn't be too much of an issue though. The bottles just require some time to make and are relatively cheap.
Mine worked faultlessly on my hetchins during L'eroica though! Here they are, whilst I am looking very old and suffering!
Sorry about the watermark......I haven't bought it yet!

Only just seen this....my bad.
I'll pull my finger out of my arse and speak to my buddy.
Incidentally, I used them again today on a ride for the first time since......spot on still!

Nice work; I love this sort of "make do and mend" project.

Bought 2 of these just before xmas (only took about a week or so to turn up)...A nice donor to a vintagey project though need to sort a stopper that looks cork/woodeny and fits exactly/securely.

very interesting thread, anyone out there can make some decent merckx bottles 90's? now there would be big demand for that.

Just resurrecting this one.... I've actually spoken to my mate about this today. I bought a vintage bike from eBay last night, just for the original bottles and cages on the front! I am picking it up Friday and will then get the cages to him to see if be can make an 'authentic' copy, as opposed to my bodge it job.
