  • I'll take some pictures and upload them to my photo album on here.

I have two bikes that need to go on there.

    C'mon!

  • I've got all my camera with me now jake so I can do proper photos for you

  • so are the twattery dwellers communicating via lfgss?

  • I'm still not moved in :(

  • w.a.t.

  • what a tool?

  • Oh sweet Spotter. I still need to file down the axles, remove a link and slam the wheel.

And I found that copy of 10.5. Let me know when you want it.

  • Has the been de-filed yet?

Took me about 3 minutes to file the Corima's axle down a mil or 2, using a finishing file.

What are you using, Xander's nail file?

  • No it's not been done yet, moving has taken precedence.

  • time to merge two forum identities, jakebreaker and chainbrown

  • Ironically, James' last post occurred today.

    A real oh shit moment.

My chain snapped. On NJS chains (and others for all I know) there is a link that has a screw through it, I think this is so one can undo the chain with a normal flathead screwdriver rather than a link extractor. Anyway, I was riding brklzz and had just turned onto a very steep descent, when my chain snapped. I really didn't know what to do - was a bit of a rabbit in the head light moments. I unclipped and thought of just jumping off the bike, but I was so worried it would be completely ruined. In the end I just carried on coasting down the hill, terrified, with the chain scraping along the ground, until I came to a bit of flat in which I was able to drag my foot along the floor to eventually slow down.

Lesson learnt. No more brakeless, leading up to the accident, if that is what it can be called, I felt very uncomfortable and not very safe. The North London hills are no good for brakeless, although I am sure Dom will argue with my opinion.

It also made me realise I should've just done what I had originally intended and got Spotter bars, a brake and SRAM S500s, which irritatingly, I sold last week.

Next is the question of either getting a clamp on, getting some drilled forks like Tommmmmms from TFG - though I think chrome would look shit, or get Ryan Oak to make me some that are drilled.

And just in case anyone was wondering, neither myself, the frame, the crabon, or any components were damaged today.

Edit: forgot to mention, I was unable to slam my wheel anymore in the dropout and had no spare links with me, so I had to walk from Mill Hill to Hendon and get a train to Kentish Town and then walk from Kentish Town to Upper Holloway. Nightmare!

  • Why not just drill the forks you have?

  • Well yes, I could do that, but just feels a bit wrong to drill 'em. And I'm not sure about the clearances with the headset so would need to check.

  • Use foot on front or back tyre to modulate speed.

This has happened twice to me - was pretty scary but i got over it.

  • ^Spotter suggested this when I got home, I didn't think of that at all. Hopefully it won't happen again so I shouldn't have to do it ;-) This hill was very steep though.

  • Uh - oh,

Glad you and the bike are ok though, but hurry up getting it back together, i want to see it!

  • Yeah shoulda pulled a Massan. This doesn't mean you need a brake though, just need to stop running the master links

  • I need a brake fam. I know you ride in hilly Bristol without a brake but I just don't enjoy riding brakeless. I go faster with a brake. Faster is funner :-)

  • Well yes, I could do that, but just feels a bit wrong to drill 'em. And I'm not sure about the clearances with the headset so would need to check.

I reckon drill them.Seems crazy to consider getting some custom made forks and just have these sat around gathering dust. You've bought this bike to ride, you may as well make the most of it, fuck what people say that it'll ruin it/learn to ride brakeless/HTFU etc

Or if you're really against it, go the clamp on route - but I think they look ugly as sin and I'm not convinced by them.

Some of the nicest bikes on here are track frames with front brakes, can't beat 'em, join 'em.

  • You could've ruined your pretty face Jake.

Get a brake. I'm still waiting for my fucking bike.

  • ^ this, come on french headset hunt.

  • I need a brake fam. I know you ride in hilly Bristol without a brake but I just don't enjoy riding brakeless. I go faster with a brake. Faster is funner :-)

    haha rep'd.

I'd vote for drilling these aswell, getting custom forks seem crazy just to avoid drilling. On thing is if they're super tight make sure a caliper will fit, my forks are drilled but a caliper rubs on a 25c with narrower rims

  • What if you get a brake and your carbon clinchers overheat on the fearsome descents of North London and your wheel explodes and bits of your face damage the paintwork?

Nothing is safe Jake Brown, nothing is safe.
