  • Probz not ;-) But they are used hubs so have already had a fair bit of mileage put on them.

  • "Mine don't actually spin for that long. A disappointingly short amount of time in fact. Tommmmm said that this could be because there is too much grease. They are sooooo smooth though. Could that be true? Not that I doubt him, of course."

"Impossible to have too much grease. Spinning well under no load means nothing. When you sit on it they will spin perfectly. Just like GXP bottom brackets."

"My 7600s dont spin that long compared to the varno quandos i had, couldnt tell when riding though."

Grease light and frequently. Back in the 1970's and 80's pro riders would actually remove all grease from bottom brackets and wheel bearings for TT racing and shorter crits, track and road racing a like. Undoubtedly lubricants have come a long since then, hence this might no longer be the case. It is however a misunderstanding that there are no such thing as greasing too much, certainly if you're looking for optimal performance.

Pro riders of course have no or very little concern about wear and tear, and most of us mortals might not benefit from or even notice the marginal advantage of riding "grease free" over short distances, but for all sorts of reasons you're nevertheless better off greasing as lightly and as frequently as possible. Whether you can be bothered to do so, is an entirely different matter.

before everybody goes and cleans the grease off its worth mentioning they used couple of drops of a liquid lubricant (oil) for that as a substitute - apparently rolling resistance is greatly increased, unfortunately with an impact on the bearings

  • Maybe JB should just get some nice sealed bearing hubs...

  • Find me a sealed track hub that can easily be converted into 8mm/110m spacing and we have a deal!

We don't really - I love these wheels.

System Ex hubs can be converted to 8mm axle and 110 spacing. Plus yon can pop in some Phil Woods bearings. I believe I've mentioned this before.

And I've been running my Panasonic like this for five years now no problem.

  • these can convert a novatec in to 110/8mm female

  • Just a few options to look into before you ride the bike.
