  • Longer stem perhaps? What are you running? I got a 100mm stem with 25.4 clamp but might be too short.

  • I think this stem is 50-60mm - don't think I'd want to go that long. Got anything shorter? Or will a can-shim work?

  • Are you sure? it'll put your moustache bar in a similar position to your flat/riser with the 100mm.

  • Hmm. I'm willing to try, Scoble. But if you try and make me put balloon tires and a Carradice on this, I'm going to have to draw a line in the sand.

  • If you're drawing a line in the sand, then maybe the balloon tyres is actually a good idea...

  • Little update tonight: a set of VO Left Bank handlebars. They're still shifting a tad if I put too much weight on, so I think the stem must be 26mm - will see if a Coke can shim will solve it tomorrow. Also need a new brake cable, because at the moment it's brakeless, for all intents and purposes.

If you're keeping those bars then an inverse brake lever would probably be a good idea. Also, I have one for sale...

I would never recommend balloon tyres. You're getting a nice little multi-quote, though.

  • Sparky do you have a recent picture of this with the new bars?

  • It's back to this now: http://i.imgur.com/5GV8j.jpg

Didn't have the right size stem for the other bars and never got round to buying one.

  • Get it brazed cheaply, and use as pub bike.

  • The inside of the tubes look pretty rusty, so this is the end. An All City Big Block is on the way and the Fuji just needs to hang in there for another few weeks until I get a chance to get the new parts I need together and find time to swap everything else over. Sad times.

I'd like to strip the powdercoat, let it rust and hang it on the wall. Any ideas on how to most easily do that? Or should I leave it as is and put it up?

  • cut off half the frame to be used as a stool.

  • Yeah, but it'd snap when someone sat on it.

    ;)

  • Perhaps it has suffered enough.

Lots of paint stripper, nitromoros/similar. Leave overnight. Scrape off with a old credit card / similar. IME removing a powder coat is a laborious process.

In terms of rusting it I'd brush it wish a salt water solution and leave it somewhere cool. With nothing protecting it it'll rust pretty quick. Personally though I spiel just let it slowly rust naturally.

If you're mounting on the wall and not using again I'd be tempted to drill bolts into it so you can mount it so it looks like its floating. Is that makes sense?
