  • I ordered my Fuji Track new in 2007 for the princely sum of £296.99, posted. First thing I did was fit a Shimano 105 brake and black out the graphics with some vinyl.

Then it went through a dodgy phase in 2008 with some yellow tires, risers and yellow Ourys. This is it in the Shoreditch Festival bike polo tournament that year.

Then it got a big overhaul later that year: Phil Wood hubs, Campagnolo Record Pista cranks, green powdercoat, but still with those ugly yellow accents.

    Yellow's fading...

It went through a period with drops, two brakes and a freewheel, but for the last few years it's been like this.

I've been toying with the idea of buying a new frame recently, maybe one of those nice Cinelli's, but I can't seem to bring myself to get rid of this one, or to leave it lying unused. So maybe it's time for a spruce-up instead. What would you do with it?

  • I miss my Fuji, it was great bike that commuted, raced and toured.

Can't really offer any suggestions other than push that seat forward a bit a fit a longer stem. Purely for aesthetic reasons.

  • I love my Fuji. No major changes (just bars, brakes and wheels) like your respray, but just a good, solid, dependable frame. So cheap, too.

  • I think the new stem is the crucial upgrade. They're great frames, but that stock black stem has no alibi.

  • It's not the stock black one, they're hideous; it's a 3T. Could lengthen it, maybe, if I used a no-layback silver Thomson and nudged the saddle forward...

  • Do it! They're not massively steep in terms of seat tube angle so it will still be comfortable.

Only other option, Matt from on here (small brown bike?) stuck a track fork on one of these for racing. Tightened up the front end nicely.

  • Drops are all it needs.

  • If you've sold those drops I have a pair of virtually unused Fuji stock drops for that authentic, period-correct feel ;)

  • Silver Thomson on the way, £29 from BikeRadar. What do Armortex charge these days?

  • I love this bike Sparky - You'd regret getting rid of it. It's got such character.

I want a fuji! I miss having a fixed bike.

  • Don't worry mate, it's going nowhere (well, it's going all over London and further, but I'm not selling it). In fact a silver no-layback Thomson is on its way - £29 from BikeRadar.

  • Ok, new (to me) Flite, atop a new (to me) Thomson, and we have v2.1 of my Fuji. It actually looks quite neat in this picture but once you get up close it's more of a well-loved ratbike.

  • All it needs is drops!

  • You should never get rid of this bike. As long as Ive known you, this has been your steed. I think I have been through about 8 bikes in them 4 years!

    :)

  • You could now fully pimp it by getting Nitto bar and stem combo and a Chris King threaded headset. Oh and a Thomson seatpost clamp the, other than the frame and forks, everything would be pure tart aftermarket.

  • Could get Donny to make you a perfect copy dimmension wise! But would have to keep the Sparks mobil!

I could get carried away with that idea, don't start! I think I'll abuse it all through winter, then give it a bloody good clean, get the wheels trued and tensioned and give it some new tires and grips in Spring. Other than that it's just getting ridden...

  • Good man! Don't change this bike I like the fact it's a workhorse and not wrapped up in cotton wool.

So I may be moving back to the city soon and I'm already looking in to buying a track bike again. Possibly a fuji or an all city nature boy.

  • You chop and change your bike plans more often than Scoble.

  • I do?

I've had my ti road bike for almost a year now that's going no where!

I'd also like a winter bike (probably fixed) so I don't ruin the road bike in winter or fall off and ding it. Fixed/ ss makes the most sense as there's a lot less to go wrong.
I was initially attracted to the fuji as It's cheap.

  • Bought fixed, got sore knee, sold fixed. Bought Ti because it can survive all weathers sans rust, don't ride it in winter, buy winter bike. Buy fixed gear again. Not criticising.

  • ha ha ha I'm laughing at work. I never looked at it like that.

I just want a track bike again really :( although I can't see SS hurting my knees too much. According to physio it was more down to a biochemical problem than the bike, so long as the bike fits properly.

  • I've had far fewer problems since starting running, despite my fears that the opposite would happen.

Anyway, >>>>>>>>>>> knee pain thread >>>>>>>>>>>

  • Little update tonight: a set of VO Left Bank handlebars. They're still shifting a tad if I put too much weight on, so I think the stem must be 26mm - will see if a Coke can shim will solve it tomorrow. Also need a new brake cable, because at the moment it's brakeless, for all intents and purposes.
