Just bought this "naked" Super Record frame, having checked with Marco Gios to verify it's real. The fork isn't a Gios, it's a Zeus, but the seller told me that anyway.
I can't make up my mind whether to just polish and fit blue decals, or have it repainted in original blue.

Would be easy to kit out with Gios blue decals, saddle and bar tape.
Try this first before going the whole hog with paint.
Or is it corroded at the lugs? -
• #29
Dunno, but it's quite a spectacular fuck up in applying the decals!

Paint it, not powdergloop whatever you do, or the Gios Appreciation Mafia will be round!

Try removing the transfers which are incorrectly poitioned, polish the frame,'reapply' the transfers and take a step back to see whether you like it.What a pity that the transfers are in the wrong positions;I would polish it and keep it that way if they weren't.

This Looks lika Lot of work!
The Stickers are mixed of several Compact versions
So I guess the paint scheme is not original
The Top Tube Covers for the brake housing look like Cinelli, so not original And not tight enough
Please publish the Frame numbers And I can give you an idea of which model you own: Compact, Compact Pro, Compact Pro Evolution aso.
Collectable is only the First issue by th wayYou're correct, the original tube covers were worn out and replaced with the cinelli covers..
According to the Gios Owners club the frame is a Compact
The bottom bracket is on its way out, so it might be a good time to get it stripped and resprayed and put the correct decals on. The front badge has had the rivets removed so I'd say its definitely had some work done on it.
Good looking out!

Hy Big Ted,
By the First look it seems to be an early coin model, build between '79 and '83. beautifull state and maybe you'll find the pantographed chainring and seatpost one day. I hope it get's some rides. Many thanks, it's already been on the RetroRode this year and may be used at l'eroica although the paint is more fragile than it looks so I might use a different bike as more concerned about packing it up for the flight than the ride itself.

Never paint it, what so ever!
This is one of a few survivors of the Full chrome models! Replace the Stickers to the original scheme, Do some Inner Tube conservation And go for a Mission to find the right fork. The chrome Models I knew from the past rusted all away. Good luck. -

Gios Owners Club
Gios Torino Historic Register
I am soon to reassemble a 1984 Professional for the Historic Register. The NOS SR brake levers arrived yesterday from Spain. I just need to recover a Brooks, and have the Brooklyn decals printed for the Reg bottle. (yes I know by the 1980s it was past the Brooklyn heyday, but it is my whim.) -

OK, now I got it. The Gios Owners Club is the Taiwan-Bunch! Thats not my Team.
I stick to the handmade frames from Bella Italia! -

Ahnuts, chrome? You lucky sod! I hate to agree with our German friends, but don't even think about paint...
Big Ted, double credibility for Brooklyn jersey (which I want) and actually riding, not just displaying.
...and nuke Taiwan, first offence!

Whats the deal with paint/powder coating? Is it faux pas to do it? Let me have the knowledge!!
Chrome would be pimp, but could be beyond my price range to get it..
For Gios Compact, the frame number is 901114.

You want to paint your bike that's pictured up there ^^^^^^^? I think the colour looks great as it is; stylish, and practical with the Campagonolo group set.

^^powdercoat is much thicker than paint and blurs the sharp lugwork that it took the builder hours upon hours to perfect, I have yet to see it produce a high-quality finish. I have sinned and used powdergloop on my Gios, I repented and it is a bugger to get rid of.....
Gios Compact should be along in a minute with info on your frame (he seems to know stuff), Ahnuts, but presuming it is original chrome (not stripped paint) it is pretty damned rare, painting it would make it less so and lower the value. Not that this matters a fuck if you want to just keep it and ride it!

uhhhh, I think you may have me confused with Rolling Thunder, who has the bling bling Super Record with dodgy decals..
Mine is the (what I thought) odd blue coloured frame up against the grey cupboards..
Cheers

Hy there,
the bike was build in 1989/90.Due to the Pictures I*´m not quite sure if its a Compact or allready a Compact Pro (what I do think)?! Please publish some Pictures of the inner side of the rear drop out ends so we can take a look. The structure has been build up stronger after quite a lot of the first compacts broke apart at this crucial Point.*The compact range was never offered in Chrome, but throughout the decades in quite a lot of horrible colours/two tone laquers: blue, white, red, black, pink and green with violett, blue and white aso...
Regarding the fact, that this bike must not compete versus steel-oldies ( it wont get a starting number for classic steel races) and you would like to use it as a daily Driver and sporting good - do some powdercoating in blue. There are some companys in GB who do an astonishing good Job in that. And it even protects/conserves your bike better than a fragile paint Job. If you like to build it up for real, send it to GIOS in Bella Italia and let them do the paint and the decals (costs around 360 - 420 € I guess) going chromed is about 700,-€ (in Germany)

Hy Colin,
the best and easiest way to get rid off the powder is to put your bike in an acid bain. No torturing the fragile Frame with sandblast, like a lorry, and its cheap: 20 € for the Frame and 4 € for the fork -

^^^Ah, my bad, you correctly identified my cretinous confusion.... Keep frame, get rid of cupboards, do not powdergloop.
Gios Compact, the other way to get rid of powdergloop is paint stripper, hard work and emery followed by scotchbrite. That's what I did to mine, it takes forever....

Nice one, thanks very much for the info! Well, a lick of paint it may be then.. I'll snap a pic of the dropouts when I get a second, too, got to try to keep this thread alive!
