Hi Peter, I have a support you can borrow if you need.

• #28
Joe you're a hero! But I need two, and still have to get the bags too
Maybe I'll contact you, many thanks in advance

It might be sad, but I reckon this is a great thread!

In my naive way, I like to think that if I can do stuff for people it helps keep things going in the right direction. I can lend you my nelson longflap and support but if you don't give it back i'll cry and loose faith in this place as the last bloke off this fixie interweb forum shafted me. You'll need to be quick on the uptake though. I'm off on holiday on Sat so could post tomorrow if I got my shit togehter.

Alternatively, these folk have them:

they have the larger ones too I see, yay!

Joe (stay naive and) don't rush, I'm growing confident I'll get what I want after all, however impossible that seems to be through regular channels (e.g. shops)

Spa cycles... what a shop.
-
• #34
Spa the shop that the staff shout at you....well they shouted at me on Peter's behalf.
-
• #35
Incredible. Makes me very sad to hear this, it turns out he knew you ordered the stuff on my behalf and still put the wrong things in the post. I think I'll send him a nice e-mail thanking him for all his help and friendliness.

If this turns out to be a happy ending, Spa will be getting all my trade from now on. Never been to the shop itself but the service has always been great. They also seem to be cheaper than average too!
-
• #37
What's not to love??? 100% awesome!

Sorry, but absolutely no happy ending in this case, through Marxist_fixie I have literally been told "never to contact Spa again" while all I did was politely ask for a fast way to get the bits to me. They now seem to refuse to pay the return postage cost of the wrongly sent parts too.

To clarify....i spoke to SC and they told me 'That Dutchman who pestered us'.....then told me to tell Peter to 'Never contact them again'....and 'to do what i like and send the bags back if i want and will get a refund'.
They offered to pay the return postage for the saddle cycle loops......i have just sent them an email saying i will be returning the whole consignment and because of the cost of the stuff; i shall use Special Delivery@ £9.75 and expect that to be refunded as the cock up was theirs...i have not yet received a reply...so as yet they have not refused to pay the return postage on the whole consignment but they might and i will keep everyone posted.
One further point.....to speed things up...i called them by phone and discussed the items needed......they have accused me of not being clear in what i wanted.....if that were true...it is their responsibility to clarify but.....i asked for a Bagman and let them know, i had noted they had three different versions of the Bagman on their website and i asked on Peter's behalf which one works best with a Brooks B17 saddle.....bearing in mind a B17 has built in saddle loops anyway and they told me which one.....and i told them the cost of the deal is £174...he agreed and the rest as they say is history!......so they got it totally wrong and blame me into the bargain

I have spent a substantial amount with them in the past ,but will now look for other alternatives ,they will now be added to my "last resort" list

Booooo!!! Rubbish chippy attitude that.

Spa have some really nice staff and some well...not so nice and this is by admission of a member of their staff....someone of them have short tempers and when they meet up with a customer with a short temper.....Boom!
My advice to you if take people as you find them......if they have been good to you in the past.....no reason they won't continue to be good to you.....don't cut your nose off to spite your face unless they were rude to you....then i would look for alternatives.......Peter has reason to have nothing more to do with them.....but do you?

Shame about the end of this story.
I have to add, being from H'gate and having been to the shop a number of times the level of service varies massively between the staff.
One day asking for wheel bearings, one employee huffed and puffed that he had to find them, then opened a draw stuffed with them and said 'find them yourself'. Oh, thanks, great...
On the other hand, I've spent many a time there chatting to other staff who are much more accommodating, easy to talk to, and provide the service you'd expect...

Spa Cycles...in four words?....[1] eccentric [2] unpredictable [3] wonderful [4] awful
One of my Great-granfather's lived for a time in Harrogate.....got nothing to do with Spa Cycles but thought i should mention it.

It varies indeed I know first hand now; the employee that contacted me through lfgss is very helpful and friendly.

It varies indeed I know first hand now; the employee that contacted me through lfgss is very helpful and friendly.
The person who i spoke to when making the order was very friendly...the person i spoke to today was not....and though he was not rude to me....he was rude to someone else another client of theirs and that is very disrespectful and not a good way to do business......have they not heard of client confidentiality?....totally unprofessional.....you don't tell someone to tell another customer to never bother them again!
-
• #48
Yep, sorry about that Leon, if only you had spoken to me!
The boss is very hit and miss. And he is far too quick to tell customers to fuck off sometimes... Saying that, it is a proper old school bike shop.
I've dealt with the shop many times and though aware of the dark side to Spa...it had never happened to me....so i was taken back by the attitude of the guy i spoke to and would not give me his name......and you are right about it being a proper bike shop but some of their attitudes spoil it.
It is said that Yorkshire folk are a tad strange but Spa cycles are on occasions perhaps giving Yorkshire folk a bad name!

hi
I want to buy these brakes from them. I've contacted them by email and they responded once (qoute for shipping to Austria) but they have not responded to any of my emails (its been 2 weeks now). Does anyone know of an alternate email adress they check other than sales@spacycles.co.uk ? Do they have a skype account? I've tried calling them but the lines are usually busy.
http://www.spacycles.co.uk/products.php?show=512or if someone is going there anyway, and is willing to post the item to me (i'll pay for the item and the shipping ), contact me through pm
