  • Road setup, I think this is the best setup for longer/comfier position.

    EC90's for the track.

I'd go for an x2 stem on both, I think aesthetically they're the most pleasing.

  • Re road set up.

Go for those bars that spotter has and everyone copied from him and then buy my sram s500 levers in black

  • Sram 900

  • Get a bike fit

  • Get cycle training

  • Get a rack

  • Get rhythm

  • Did two 115 mile rides on an alu track frame. Twas fine.

You are selling some S500 levers?

    Do tell?

  • Lu'dem levers...

  • Spotter has bars on his bike?

  • Spotter has bars on his bike?

Yeah. PM him and ask what they are...

  • Personally I'd go for carbon road drops and levers over bull horns, but ymmv. .

Spinning a fixed, I tend to be happy moving back and forth on some longish bull bars.

Definitly a taste thing I guess.

  • I always liked sanddancer's LOOK:

  • Best looking gold chain ever!

  • best bet would be to take an alu track frame out for a canter, if you can get your hands on a built up look, then great if not, we are in the capital city of alu track bikes, you can go in store or try one from someone you know.

Other people's opinions, are other people's opinions, if you want to drop big money on something then best to have something concrete to work from, that suits you, rather than how it feels for others.

Try before you buy, if you like it, and it suits you, nothings lost, if it doesn't then pounds and heartache have been saved.

If all of the above has been already done, then carry on, as you were.

  • You welcome to have a go on my Cinelli Vigorelli. I don't think there is much of a difference.

  • Maybe Kuba would let you borrow his Look. He sure as hell never rides it...

Everybody...I'm sure HB wants your advice but I think you are all missing the point. He wants a HHSB that is practical. My advice to him was spend ~£500 on a pre cursa or a track champion with some half decent parts and see how he feels.

I've ridden most of my centuries this year on frames which a lot of you steel junkies deem too stiff or aggressive for distance use and loved every minute of it. My FP2 has barely been off the rack. I happen to like being able to feel the road through my bike. Its just my personal (lack of) taste.

Anyway...back to HBs build. He's a powerful rider and heavy set. Being a big chap myself I have found that bullhorns flex like hell when climbing and I much prefer road bars with some road levers for extra hand positions.

Laner was round mine earlier and disagreed with me but then whilst demonstrating the point that larger and more powerful riders struggle with bullhorns I managed to bend his at the stem without even giving it any welly. HB...keep in mind that you'll be matching your leg power with your upper body on the climbs and bullhorns with a stem give a lot of leverage that can give way.

This is just my personal experience and I hear great things about bullhorns from a lot of riders but I think they could be the wrong choice for Ciq when he starts racking up the miles and taking in some hills.

  • A practical HHSB? double Ghibli or GTFO

    ;p

  • I only heard the term hhsb for the first time recently. I refer to my garish carbon monstrosities as my chavmobiles.

    Oops!

Those were 26.0mm airwings, though; I'd imagine bullhorn technology has moved on a little since the introduction of OS bars. I would also imagine that YMMV re.: using bullhorns by manufacturers other than Profile.

That said, Dan you're not touching my airwings. I like 'em too much!

  • Also, get a bike fit (as Henry said) IMHO.

  • Ok so I may be overstretching on the 100mi mark...

What confused me the most is that the Surly is perfectly suitable for that kind of distance than the LOOK.

Mind you looking forward to seeing this LOOK.

  • I don't think its it's about the surly being unsuitable. He just wants a nice fast bike.

Have you thought about a Seta*?

    *( I do realise a LOOK is a LOOK and a Dolan is a Dolan )

  • My Seta-like Dolan is a pleasure to ride over distance.

Of the three basic Dolan's I'd choose a Track Champion though.
