12-08-24 Let's go wild swimming pt 2 - Dedham
Friday 24 August – London Fields to Dedham
Meet at Pub on the Park, London Fields. Suggest we leave early – 8am prompt, to get there early afternoon. If there’s any appetite to set off earlier I’d be up for it.
Trains back from Manningtree (5 mile ride away) at 16.53, 17.02, 17.19, 17.53, 18.32, 18.53. Journey is about an hour – standard singles about £24.

Good stuff - weather permitting, should be a good day.

I have bought a special towel for this! One of those microfibre camping efforts, folds down a bit smaller and dries quick.

I am very sad not to be able to make these rides.
Particularly because I've long harboured an ambition to go fishing for crayfish in the Thames in Oxfordshire. Apparently the place is teeming with them (not to put you off).
Curse you work!

I used to work at the sun - nice place. Enjoy the ride.

Same deal with this one as the one on the 16th: working in Victoria at 4pm. Shame, would love, love, love to do both these.

Looking at the photos of yesterday, I reckon what was missing was a picnic.
Maybe we could all bring a few tasty morsels to share, or stop and get some bits closer to the destination.
Creatin cake, cherry sweets and jelly snakes too.
I'll try and sort out a saddle bag by then. -

Great idea.
Have also been thinking about the timings as well. I reckon we should bank on around 7 hours - which means getting there for 3. Should we set off a bit earlier? I think we concluded yesterday that not everyone wanted to be sat in a pond in an Essex field at 6 o'clock on a Friday evening, and I'd quite like to visit the Sun pub that Dumps mentioned while we're there.

^^Bought a pack of jelly snakes today! They are very cheap as well 78p in morrisons, good price nowadays.
Creatine bars, but of the monohydrate variety :p

I did too - but they're about twice the price in Sainsbury's. Stock pile now!

So the weather isn't looking too brilliant for Friday - dry in the morning, but showers in the afternoon (though if we're swimming we'll be getting wet anway). I think we should go ahead anyway, and we can always dry out in the pub if needs be.
No-one has said they want to set off any earlier, so I'll assume we're leaving the start time at 8.
See you all Friday!

Just saw this as until purchasing a new road bike last week I've been mainly avoiding the rides forum and lurking in the swimming thread. Can't make Friday (swimming!) but great idea for a ride. Definitley up for future ones. Hop eyou have a great day out.

So this is this Friday....
Balls. In Oxford then driving to Devon in the evening.
Out. 'till next time hopefully.
Saturday 9 September – London Fields to Dedham
Longer, but flatter than the Clifton Hampden route on 16 Aug (https://www.lfgss.com/thread90708.html ). Follows the Dunwich route for much of the way.
Route here:

[/ame]
Slightly approximate as we basically followed signs for the last bit. Might be worth someone bringing a fancy internet phone. Oh, and there's some offroading at the end. With cows. The river is lovely, and there's a national trust teashop there, and lots of cafes / pubs in Dedham.

Disclaimer
These will only be any fun if the weather is half way decent – no problem with sun and showers, but if it is torrential rain, then I may stay at home. Oh, and no obligation to swim.
