• Just order the wheels as normal and email me with the order number and ask for double fixed sorted....Black rims will scratch up i reckon..

  • My friend has been running a brake on the all black 40mm rims for about 6 months, the colour has not faded do much as 'polished' so they're now just very shiny.
The paint is pretty resilient but I'm sure it will fade, flake and wear away eventually.

Bombproof wheels though, I rode hard with him all through the winter and they're still true.

  • its a shame there isnt a way of getting a black machined rim, it would look so much nicer. I guess I could just ride brakeless again...

  • Don't ride brakeless if you don't feel safe doing so, it's not a good idea.
If you want that unmachined look but with to run a brake you should look into full carbon rims, there have been a fair few horror stories surrounding carbon clinchers and hard braking but if you rarely use a brake and always use well maintained carbon specific brakepads you should be fine.

There is some risk involved and to get top carbon from well known brands will cost you, however it's easy to find from china and is usually of fair quality.

If you want to talk further you can PM me or make a thread, I'd rather not clutter up Jim's thread with info about products that aren't his.

If I've said too much already just let me know and I'll delete it.

  • It's an interesting point and one we have deliberated on. Every time it comes back to a machined surface being better all round from braking on. On the carbon wheels we also researched a lot. Our carbon clinchers have an ally rim which makes the tyre sit well and also allow for great braking. Be very very careful with full carbon clinchers. The expanding tube and tyre pressure is high and the rim needs to be high quality to allow for the pressure and braking.

  • Yes
You so need to find a pad that responds well to your rim, temperature is a big problem for carbon and with the pressure we run clinchers at these two can fail together with horrible consequences.

They should be fine with light or irregular braking in a city, most of the noted failures occurred descending mountains and hills at high speeds.

  • I may just suck it up and get a braking surface on the miche hubs - the wheels look too mint to ignore. If I move to the track and build up another fixed I'll look into full carbon a bit more and probably go for tubs.

  • Agree with you mate.

  • Full carbon on the track is defo a tub mate...

  • Nice one...Thanks for the feedback.

  • After my wheels got stolen a week and a half ago I ordered a set of wheels (miche hubs, 30 mm rims) on a Tuesday afternoon before receiving them two days later.

Very happy with the extremely swift postage and good quality wheels!

For the price they are absolutely amazing. They seem to keep on spinning forever.
Look pretty nice on my Cinelli - although they make the bike look slightly too HHSBish.

So yeah, +1 for V Sprint!

  • v nice
